Does working out with music help or hinder the workout? The answer to this question really depends on each and every individual but for most the answer is yes working out with music helps the workout. Why you may ask. The answer is simple. For most people listening to their favorite tunes helps get them in the mood to workout and stay in the zone for the workout. I know I can’t get my head in the right place for a work out if I don’t have my favorite tunes blasting.
When you first step on a cardio machine and choose any of the programs, the machines usually prompts you to input a couple of figures, such as weight, height, and age. The reason for this is the machine is calculating your resting metabolic rate (RMR). The RMR is the number of calories you consume in order to maintain homeostasis in the body in a temperate environment. In other words the calories needed for your body to perform the functions it needs to survive at room temperature. The RMR accounts for 60-70% of your daily caloric expenditure. So why do cardio machines calculate this figure?
