Fitness + Nutrition + Accountability = Success

As a Fitness Professional I am always asked, how can you help me lose weight? My answer for the most part has alwyas been…come work with me. My rates aren’t cheap, but I promise to give you the best workout in the most efficient time spand and leave you with an experience that makes you look forward to seeing me again.
The issue I am facing is that there are only so many hours in the day that I can train. As I look back at why I became a personal trainer, it was not to make a lot of money. I am a people person. I am passionate for people with fitness and nutrition. I am reminded every time a client of mine goes to the doctors and comes back even healthier then before. What I have always struggled with is how can I help MORE PEOPLE. How can I make an IMPACT on obesity and create a movement. My answer came when I became a Beachbody Coach.
The first thing I did was call my mom and tell her all about Beachbody’s Ultimate Reset program. It’s a 21 day cleanse to help my mom jumpstart her health and fitness and she is ROCKING and RE-MOTIVATED to reach her fitness goals. Even though, I am in Baltimore, MD, I am able to help keep my mom accountable by making sure she is following the plan and ….POW! The rest is history.
My husband and I are drinking Shakelogy every day for breakfast. This is one meal that will keep me full and energized to get through the morning and we feel great! I have recommended to ALL my clients, friends, co-workers, and family to drink it everyday…why?… BECAUSE IT WORKS!
We have all seen the infomercials, P90x, Insanity, TurboFire. They are all great programs that are PROVEN to work if you follow them. The problem is, we don’t commit to the workouts and food plan. As a coach, I get to hold you accountable and keep you motivated to press play everyday because that is was creates SUCCESS.

So if you don’t live near me, but still want me to help you get results, I am here to help. Please contact me if you have any questions.

Live Inspired,
Alicia

Muscle Imbalances

By Alicia Phillips
To move a joint we need our muscles. As one muscle shortens, it's partner lengthens. Sometimes one muscle is stronger which causes imbalance. This can be the result of incorrect weight training, or intense sports where one side of the body is used slightly more than the other as in the repetitive action of kicking in football. The result is indirect overuse as opposed to direct overuse. Faulty mechanics if not corrected can start to cause irritation to the joint or soft tissues leading on to worsening episodes of pain, aching, or stiffness. Here are 10 exercises you can do that can help improve muscle imbalances. 1. Chest Stretch 2. 5-5-5 3. Scapular Stabilization 4. Back Stretch 5. Leg Lifts 6. Bridge 7. Hamstring Stretch 8.Hip Stretch 9. Mountain Pose 10. Spinal Twist A good way to know what muscles you need to use or stretch during your day is to take a look at what motions and postures you are in throughout the day and then do the opposite at various times during the day. If you have to sit most of your day, then take a moment to stand up once an hour or so. If your pelvis is posterior all day, tilt it forward on occasion. If your back is slouching forward, stop and straighten it and then gently extend your spine backward. If your shoulders and head are forward, roll your shoulders back, lift and open your chest; then straighten your elbows and extend your arms back behind you rolling your palms out thumbs up, fingers extended, and circle your wrists. Pretty simple, pretty obvious, yet many do not think to do this.

Combine Training

By Alicia Phillips

What is it? Think of it as the SAT for athletics.  Are you an athlete? Were you an athlete?  What is your sport?  Being an avid athlete back in high school and college, work and LIFE ahve stepped in now and it is difficult to call myself an athlete still.  However if you are like me and love competition, maybe TRAINING is YOU SPORT!

Combine 360 was designed with one main purpose—to help all athletes get better! No matter what your level, Under Armour and IMG have dedicated themselves to creating the most complete testing system an athlete could ever need, so that you can walk away with a better understanding of where you are now and what it’s going to take to get better. This is not a test without purpose: the mission is to challenge you physically and mentally to take it to the next level each and every day.

Join the movement. Sign up today for your Combine360 page and become a part of the community. Once you’re in, head over to the challenge center and get a taste of what’s in store for you as you take part in Combine Training.

TOP 10 REASONS TO HIRE A PERSONAL TRAINER

By Alicia Phillips

TOP 10 REASONS TO HIRE A PERSONAL TRAINER
1) You're not seeing Results
If you've been exercising consistently for several weeks or months and aren't seeing the changes you'd like, hiring a trainer may be a good choice. A trainer can look at your current program and eating habits and help you see where you could make changes to create more effective workouts. A trainer can also help you determine if the goals you've set are realistic for you.
2) You Don't Know Where to Start
Knowing how to set up a balanced schedule that includes all the activities you need to do can be confusing. The great thing about a trainer is that he or she can help you maximize your time while helping you stay within your own limits so you don't overdo it. He or she can also help you set goals and map out a specific schedule so you know when, how and where you'll fit in your workouts.
3) You're bored with the same old workouts
If you're an experienced exerciser, maybe you haven't considered working with a trainer. But it can be a great choice if you need some variety in your workouts. A trainer can bring a fresh perspective and new ideas to challenge both your body and your mind. Even if you just do a few sessions or meet every few weeks, you'll find it refreshing to have new workouts and new exercise toys to play with.
4) You Need to Be Challenged
Like many, you tend to slack off on your workouts sometimes, especially when things get tough. A trainer can motivate you to push past those self-imposed limits, encouraging you to lift heavier, go longer and challenge yourself more than you would on your own. You'll find it's very hard to slack off with a trainer standing over you, telling you to do just...one...more...rep!
5) You Want to Learn How to Exercise on your Own
Even if your goal is to create your own workouts and exercise by yourself, hiring a trainer for a few sessions can be a great benefit for learning the right way to exercise. This is especially true if you want to learn more about the muscles in your body, the exercises that target those muscles and how to do those exercises with great form. Just a few sessions can teach you a lot about your body and how it works.
6) You Need Accountability and Motivation
Trainers come with built-in motivation. Not only are you investing money into your exercise program...you're investing time as well. There's nothing like a standing appointment to get your butt in gear for a workout. Not only that, a trainer provides some accountability so, even when you don't have a session, you know your trainer will be asking if you did your planned workouts. Just knowing that may make it harder to skip your workouts.
7) You Have a Specific Illness, Injury or Condition
If you have any specific issues like arthritis, heart disease, old injuries, etc., working with an experienced trainer (who works with your doctor, of course) can help you find a program to help heal injuries and avoid any further problems. It's also a great idea to work with a trainer if you're pregnant and want a safe, effective workout to keep you healthy and fit. Just make sure your trainer has experience with your issues!
8) You're Training for a Sport or Event
If you're training for a marathon, a golf tournament or some other type of sport or event, an experienced trainer can help you figure out what you need to do to stay strong without taking away from your other training. He or she can also help create a training program and map out a plan for the coming event. Just make sure he or she's experienced in the sport you're training for since not all trainers do sport-specific training.
9) You Want Supervision and Support during Workouts
Some people know how to exercise and they even know how to do the exercises correctly, but they like having a trainer around for support and supervision. If you're lifting very heavy weights or need someone to help with partner-type exercises, working with a trainer might be a good choice for you. He or she can spot you during workouts and help you come up with a good training plan for your goals.
10) You Want to Workout at Home
If you'd like to exercise at home but either don't have a lot of equipment or aren't sure how to use what you have, in-home personal training is an excellent choice. A trainer can show you exactly how to use what you have to get the best workout for you or he or she can bring equipment with him or her to give you a great workout. He or she can also make recommendations for equipment that will help you reach your goals.

Fitness Internships

By Alicia Phillips

Imagine graduating from college and going into a career that you thought you would be very successful and be absolutely passionate for only to find out you hate it and your life is not where you expected it.  I believe everyone going to college should have an internship befroe they graduate.  No matter how many books and lectures you attend, you will never learn more than you will in an internship.  This is reality.  I learned that you really know something when you worked on it for 10,000 hours.  Now, that is a long time, but 40 hours a week for 16 weeks doing what you love and are planning on doing, now that's what I call learning.  This is the true test to finding out if you can see yourself doing this as a career or if it's not at all what you want, at least you can still change your mind while you are still in school.
I had the privledge to do my internship at Fitness Quest 10 in San Diego, California.  This has been the best decision of my life. I have never met such passionate, educated, and awesome people in the fitness world.  They opened my eyes to things I never thought about and I learn 10X the amount of information than I ever did in college.  It was real, it was hard, but by far worth every hour I put into it! My experienced with FQ10 has enhanced my abilities to work with kids, athletes, and adults.
