Ok, we've had a mild winter by most Michigan winter standards, but time to think SPRING! That thought should be accompanied with a step up in your fitness efforts. Prepare those thighs for the skimp fabrics that will replace the knits and wools. Flesh will be exposed in massive quantities. This is the perfect time to step up (or get started) with some pilates and cardio. Don't delay...let this spring be different from the past!!!
If you are living with back pain, please give pilates a try!! Several of my client's have recently referred to pilates as the "Miracle Exercise", as they have gained relief from physical pain through my STOTT PILATES instruction. Joseph Pilates was a genious! His work continues to help thousands. The mind/body connection you achieve in pilates is beneficial to your emotional strength, as well and physical strength! I lived with pain for most of my early adult life and found relief several years ago through the practice of pilates movements and breathing techniques. While I love to experiment with fitness at many different levels, challenging my body at every turn, I NEVER stop with my pilates practice. Bootcamps, TRX, Kettelbell training, etc., inspires and delights me, but pilates is my mainstay! My staple exercise! I too find pilates "The Miracle Exercise"!! Specifically, STOTT PILATES! I made the right choice years ago!!
It feels like everyday there is a new "sensational" drink or edible bar in the health food isle that is the answer to our nutritional needs for a quick fix or recovery from our daily fitness routines. This morning my local news station did a spot on value of coconut water. The cost clearly of CW (in their opinion) outweighs the nutritional and good taste value. The same"goodness" can be obtained from a banana and a glass of water! For about 1/8 of the cost of a bottle/can of coconut water you can obtain the same nutritional treasures as the high priced CW!! I have seen displays of CW for several months at my favorite helath food store, but even though my taste buds LOVE coconut, the idea of coconut flavor infused with water has never been appealing to me. After watching the news spot today, I am very happy that I didn't bite the bate! I will stick with my sense of good nutrition, a banana and always lots of water!
One of the best exercise movements for the core, arms and back is the push up. I encounter so many women who think push ups are "too hard for girls!" That couldn't be farther from the truth! When executed correctly, the proper push up is one of the most effective moves for the upper body and core that a girl could do. By keeping the scapulae stable (in a natural, neutral position. Neither drawn together along the spine or rounded forward.) keeping the head right on top of the cervical spine (don't hang the head down from the neck) and keeping your pelvic floor lifted (kegel) with hands about as wide as the shoulders, bend the elbows until you lower the chest towards the floor. Don't worry about how low you can go, just use the arms to push up. Inhale on the downward movement, strong exhale on the upward movement. 2 to 3 sets of 6-8 to start and add on as you get stronger. You will see a difference in the tone of your arms quickly, if you stick with these old time favorites!
Fall descends like a blanket. Food can be such a comfort. It really soothes my soul. Until I find nothing fits. My approach to the holidays is already going in a different path this year! My birthday came and went and I didn't keep the cake after the day was over! I have not eaten any Halloween candy and will not even buy it unitl Monday. No temptations. I managed to drop 4.5 lbs in the last 2 weeks. I am working out 1.5 hrs (at least) per day. I am feeling so strongj!!
I am reining it in! My eating was out of control over the weekend. Family in town and I went on a binge. Now I have to start back on the low carb, lots of greens and veggies. Protein and working harder to burn, baby, burn it off! Can't wait to get started!
I haven't been writing in a long time! The Busy's have gotten the best of me! BUT, I have not been too busy to continue on my path to better health! I find that my work-outs have never been better nor stronger! I am preparing for a run in the fall. I am busy with my summer work, family and especially ME! Most importantly, ME! If I don't take care of me, no one else will. I continue to eat low carb, high protein and watching the alcohol calories! Loving summer, grilling vegetables and the warm, starry skies of summer in Michigan!
Finally, this feels like spring! Beautiful night on the deck with a turkey burger and small (yes, really small) glass of wine. I live for this weather. Flowers are planted and the humming birds are back at my feeders. Now for the bathing suit body! Well, I am in the best shape I can be in. I have worked so hard to reach my fitness goals! Back to tennis, teaching and sharing my knowledge about fitness, which is my PASSION! The progress my clients have made astounds me! Yet, it shouldn't. I work hard to help them reach their goals! That is true progress! Keep keeping on...
Ok, so I am down 10# in 2 weeks. This diet is not too bad! I am watching sugar (none, or as little as possible) and really looking at the number of carbs in everything I am consuming. This will be a way of life for me. Next week I will add fruit. But fruit in moderation. One thing we forget about is the carb content of fruit! It adds up!
I have lost 7 lbs. since last Monday following a slightly modified version of Jimi Varner's EXTREME WEIGHT LOSS PLAN diet. Low (almost no) carbs. No fruit, sugar, etc. Mainly green vegetables and lean meat. Eggs and bacon or ham for breakfast, snacks of unsalted, raw almonds. No wine (yes, slight modification I said!). It is not that rigid, or tough and the results are fantastic. I still have been doing my typical workout with a bigger push to challange my comfort zone. 7 lbs. in 7 days, not bad! Let's see what happens over the next few days!
