Perseverance - the quality that allows someone to continue trying to do something even though it is difficult; continued effort to do or achieve something despite difficulties, failure, or opposition.
It is through difficult times and challenges that we find our strength, courage and character, sometimes it is so deep down inside, we didn't even know it was there.
As a trainer I regularly hear the moans, groans, and complaints from clients, "This is hard", "can we do something else", "do I have to do it".
Why is it that people have come to think that working out should not be difficult or challenging. Don't we workout to change our bodies, to grow stronger on the inside and out, to be faster, lighter, healthier. Change doesn't come from easy, change doesn't come from just showing up. Change comes from sweat and pushing through when you think you can't do anymore. When you embark on a challenging workout that pushes you beyond what you ever thought you could do, not only have you just created change in your body but you walk away with such a great sense of accomplishment. You feel stronger not only physically but emotionally and mentally. Remember that as you get stronger your workouts will not get easier. The stronger you get the harder you need to make your workouts, you always need to make them challenging so that you can continue to grow.
If you don't have a friend, instructor, or trainer that will push you out of your comfort zone, go find one. Persevere through all the push ups, stairs, squats, sprints, miles, and moments of breathlessness and exhaustion because when you come out on the other side you will be triumphant.
Perseverance is the key to every great accomplishment.
“It is not enough that we do our best; sometimes we must do what is required.” ― Winston Churchill
