I appreciate this article from Mark Sisson, highlighting how our connection to others (our tribe), being present, and forgiveness (get over it and move forward!) are to our personal well being, and to the survival of the fittest:). Still feeling a bit sluggish from the holidays? Looking for new ways to fulfill your New Year’s resolution? Or perhaps just looking for a change in your fitness routine? Why not enjoy a sunny morning workout on the shores of the Pacific…http://blog.malibubeachinn.com/post/39935318091/pilates
I wish you health, happiness, and courage to take on whatever challenges you choose in 2013. Now is the time to define goals and intentions for our lives, and to set the wheels in motion to achieve them. By taking action in 3 simple steps, we can see results immediately.
1. Define your top 3 goals; write them down; transforming thoughts into action raises them from one’s subconscious to conscious mind.
2. Say your goals out loud, as though you have already achieved them. Create your personal affirmation (ie. "I am strong and healthy"..). Visualize yourself having achieved your goal; what does is look and feel like? The more detailed you can make this image in your mind, the greater are your chances of achieving it. Imagery takes practice and this helps your mind realize it as a priority. Once defined, your intention will influence your choices, willpower and actions for the positive. Say your affirmation out loud morning and night, to allow both your waking and sleeping states to process the goal.
3. Build a partnership. Tell a friend and ask them to be your advocate/coach or your work out partner. Bring a trainer on board and talk to them about your goals. ALIGNING OURSELVES WITH OTHERS WHO SUPPORT OUR GOALS EMPOWERS US TO ACHIEVE THEM. Create your own "A" team of people to keep you moving to your goal, and enjoy the ride!!

Are you facing a severe challenge? A hardship or crisis? Here is a movie heralding times of crisis as turning points to examine one's purpose, learn, evolve, and make changes for a better life. We have the power to change for the better, and if we act in alignment with universal patterns, to harness challenges as opportunities..we empower not only ourselves, but everyone around us. Each of us has the internal freedom to turn crisis into opportunity, to change our path for the better, to create anything we want. We must shift our perspective, embrace a new pathway, and believe we can do it. In the face of fear, we must raise the courage to take action. The universe is constantly expanding, and if our actions are in harmony with this, we become part of a better world.
It is deeply inspiring and can be found here;
Enjoy and be the change!!
What is it that makes us feel most alive...the rush that comes with a streamlined focus, moving through space, taking risk, learning a completely new activity? Just as a child smiles and laughs with joy as they stumble across the floor, learning to walk, our systems are wired to thrive on learning. Movement facilitates learning, which is why children are in constant motion absorbing information from their surroundings, organizing the info, and trying out new patterns.
By focusing intently on our quality of movement, opening our minds to learning (it takes time and courage to deny habits) we open the path for new neuromuscular pathways to form, stimulate neuronal growth, and feel the exhilaration of learning; vitality! Pilates is a highly effective tool to practice this as movements are learned with keen attention and full body awareness, or integration.
Learning involves opening an array of neurochemical pathways, as the organism strives to find the most efficient path to achieve a task; this firing of electrochemical activity creates feelings of excitement, alertness, and single pointed focus. It feels great! As the activity is practiced, the most efficient pathway becomes more defined, and alternate routes are closed, leading to programmed responses (learned skills and habits). Yet our bodies are constantly changing, and what we practice one day is not necessarily the best for us the next day. Dare to break out of daily habits (highly efficient but not necessarily the most effective ) and notice how feelings of vitality are restored as you stimulate your brain and body to learn again! And to find the optimal path for the present.
Attending the INNER IDEA CONFERENCE in Palm Springs last month inspired me with advanced learning skills; Tom McCook's focus on imagery for optimizing performance, and Erika Quest's Bosu pilates classes were top notch!
Special thanks to LORNA JANE, MALIBU, for sponsoring a wonderful eve of celebration for Empower clients, rewarding them for their commitment to strengthening their bodies and minds through pilates and personal training.
TOP READS this month are Anat Baniel's, "Move Into Life" and R. Schleip's "Fascia" (particularly the Pilates Applications chapter by master teacher MJ Blom), and Mary Bond’s “Heal Your Posture” (DVD workshop highly recommended).
Our bodies and minds are always ready to learn and change. They want us to thrive. You have the power to change your body, your mind, your life; Believe you can do it. And you will.
The power is within you.
