1. Drink plenty of Water- Drinking enough water and staying hydrated is key when it comes to staying healthy. Especially here in sunny Miami. Drinking water helps to decrease appetite as well as eliminate "I'm bored/hungry cravings." The goal is to drink half of ones body weight in ounces daily. ExtraTip- If water seems boring to you, add freshly squeezed lemon or lime for flavor as well as a dose of healthy antioxidants. 2. Cook your own meals/brown bag it- Set aside a day (I usually pick Sunday) to cook and prepare your own meals for the week. Not only does preparing your own meals save you money, it saves your waistline as you have control of what you're putting into your body. 3. Shop on the outside- When grocery shopping, make sure to stay on the outside perimeter of the store. Why you ask? Think about it. The middle is filled with all of the processed/packaged, unhealthy foods. While the outside is filled with your produce, meats etc. Remember this your next trip! 4. Taste the Rainbow- Make sure you're getting enough fruits and veggies into your diet. How's an easy way to do this? Taste the Rainbow! Choose a variety of fruits and veggies from each color spectrum and you'll be on your way to a healthier you! 5. Watch your plate- Portion Control is crucial when trying to get healthy and drop weight. Here's a trick. Instead of eating on the big dinner plate, try eating your main meals on the salad sized plate. Doing this will keep your portions in check and control. 6. Keep a journal- There's a lot that goes on in a day. If we don't write down what we've done or what needs to be done, we sometimes forget. Same thing goes for what we consume. Keeping track of your daily meals/intake can help you be accountable of how bad or good you're doing when it comes to what you consume. So take note and write it down. 7. Keep alcoholic beverages to a minimum- Alcohol and Health/Fitness don't really go hand in hand. While some wine has some health benefits, it's best to keep it to a minimum. Alcohol is empty calories and when trying to get in shape, we have to be aware of all our calories. If you must drink, skip the beer, juices/soda mixes and only drink on the weekend as a reward for a great healthy week. 8. Schedule your workouts- We schedule our important meeting, why not schedule our workouts?? You are important right?! So like those meetings we just can't miss, let's put the same importance on our health. Fill up your calendar and get healthy! Remember, Health is Wealth! 9. Bring a Buddy- Having someone by your side is not only comforting but it also helps you be more accountable. So seek out a friend, co-worker, family member that will help keep you on track and who has the same fitness goals as yourself and get moving! 10. Look good feel good- The days of going to the gym in old sweats and t-shirts are long gone. While some may take this to extreme, it can actually help you be more productive when it comes to your workouts. It's a proven fact, that when you look good, you feel good. So invest in some nice, comfortable sneakers, and a few new pieces to add to your workout wardrobe. Look good, feel good!
