I am still the fitness specialist at Fort Huachuca. I have more time for training people now, especially in the daytime (700-1600) throughout the week and weekends.
We have tons of fantastic classes and this is our current schedule for June

So today I spent all day doing business related stuff. I got my business name notarized and sent out. I have my EIN all set. I just need to get the Chamber of Commerce their money and I will be all set on that end.
I also setup all my administrative stuff. I am glad I have a Mac. It just makes everything so much easier to track, such as my clients, their workouts, and data.
Also, got my first personal client not related to MWR. It is nice being out on my own.
In other news, I am working out this 3 days this week.
It's been busy. We are planning a health and fitness expo now at Ft Huachuca. I am just in the planning stages and even now I am so excited. My own workouts have been going ok. I know I could be doing a little more, but sometimes hard to get it in (even when your job is fitnesss). Tonight I am going to go for a run with all my Biggest Loser peeps and do our workout. The lesson plan of what makes a good home gym is going ok. I could have done a little better, but for the future I will have nice shineys and demonstrations.
Ok, so it has started the great seasonal cleaning exploits of my house. So far I have deep cleaned 1 room, my kitchen. Yesterday I had the huge fun of climbing like a monkey the counters and cabinets to make sure it was all clean. I also moved the appliances and deep cleaned behind, inside and outside all of them. It's quite a workout. It is also really good to get deep into your house and get those areas that are generally neglected (like your vents).
Dave was sitting there watching me and all he could say was "Why are you doing this? It's not like anyone can see it anyways." While I understand that to be to true, I do still breath in that air and I just don't like the idea of that much dust just sitting there or all that dirt and grime building up in the vents. This is also the time we change the batteries in the the smoke detectors (we test them more regularly).
Now, why is this a fitness event. Well, not only of course am I making my house a beautiful masterpiece of clean and fresh air in the process is a LOT of hard work. All of this cleaning involves scrubbing, mopping, moving furniture, moving books (gotta get those bookshelves!), dusting, climbing, etc. All of which are great exercise and afterwards have a nice little party to enjoy your labor (and have another workout as you clean up the mess!).

Best You: Instant Health Answers
This book is fantastic. It covers everything including how to's on breast exams, stress buster- resiliency workout (like laughing 5 times a day!), not to mention the wealth of information on diet and exercise. I cannot recommend this book enough. So should you run out and but it. It wouldn't hurt, but it is definitely worth checking out at the library.
The Eat-Clean Diet Recharged!
This woman is preaching to the choir, but totally screaming hallelujah! I love her books. They are simple and easy to follow. Her recipes are genius for vegetarian and meat eaters alike. It is a wealth of great information including what's the deal with flaxseed and other nutrition items you may be questioning. Again she has put out a book that I do recommend you go out and buy! If you haven't checked out the first one, get that one too. They are both MUST HAVES in your collection!
Working on my website today. Hopefully soon it will be up and running and not just a sad little shell. I had a good meeting today for Biggest Loser, but of course my mind is wandering again.
I am saddened about the horrors being seen in Japan due to the earthquake and tsunamis. It is both awesome and terrifying the power of nature. People everywhere are attributing it to various things including of course the impending end times. Which really often makes me wonder. It is the point I guess as the last book in the Bible is "Revelations" and the Greek word is "Apocalypse" (literally translated "lifting of the veil"). When I was in high school, I had a theory that the Revelations according to John weren't predictions at all, but in fact his revelations as he lay dying. Perhaps we all witness these miraculous events as part and parcel of our own lives which to each individual would be the end of the world.
Anyway, my heart goes out to those in the Pacific. I will return later with something more fitness-y and health related. Of course I still need to do some reviews!
Ok, I was sitting in line at Starbucks (standing, with the munchkin). At Fry's the magazines and paperbacks are right there, so I peruse them as usual. I avoid the junk Cosmo, but I am addicted/ obsessed with fitness, diet and self-help books. So for today's picks
2. Eat This Not That No Diet Diet book
- based on the NY Times series. This book is full of helpful swaps and overall a good selection. It has a great little checklist of dietary habits and useful little bits of information. However, the food selections... they could go a little farther by taking out and subsituting more, but if you like your food straight off the menu they are pretty good. They also seem to have a thing about meat being your only source of protein, kinda discouraging to the heart.
Example: Jack in the box breakfast
They chose the pita pocket which is a good choice given Jack's other options. However, you take off the ham and bacon and leave the egg and cheese- it's a more solid choice with a fruit cup and morning coffee. It's also cheaper because they can ring up the egg, cheese and pita seperately (seriously, I have tried it both ways and the individual ordering is cheaper!)
Another example:
Burger King- they chose the Whopper Jr. Seriously? BK has veggie burgers available and with customizing of condiments (because BK LOVES to drown things in mayo) it is a much better choice with a side salad.
My rating is a B-. This is a great start, but seriously it still needs some work. I think it could include a huge section on portion control and maybe throw in a few vegetarian options, especially since it has a HUGE section on blood pressure and heart disease.
stay tuned for a few more!
I need to hit the grocery store. I keep saying this. I am eating out WAY too often again and last night just cinched it. I generally don't go for fast food (being a vegetarian there are limited options), but we let Emmie decide dinner last night during my break. Taco Bell was the decision. For those who don't know, the Taco Bell in Sierra Vista, AZ is notorious. The service is eh and the speed is incredibly slow. We got there at 4pm and didn't leave until 4:45. What makes this even more irritating? I know that I could have made all the entrees myself at home in less time and healthier, so why do I do this to myself. Ah well, tonight after gymnastics, Emmie and I are gonna buckle down and hit Fry's! We have to gather materials for a project anyway.
Now, I am off for a walk. Later I will post my reviews of books I grabbed while waiting for my coffee this morning at Starbucks!
So I am starting this journal for 2 reasons. One so I can talk to everyone, but also because I want to track my own personal journey.
I want to make sure that I walk the walk and talk the talk. This gives everyone the opportunity to see how well I am doing with that. It's hard in this modern age to keep up with everything. I get it. We all have jobs and important events in our lives, but somewhere along the way I think we get lost in the daily jumble of daycare, work, school, home and sleep. We don't let ourselves truly appreciate what we have and what is around us. Even worse, we start thinking it's selfish and that we should have "better thing to do with our time". Well, here it is- I am asking you to be selfish and take back your life. I am going to do so as well.
Ok so today I am starting we my own return. I am going to prioritize my yoga. I know that it's important, besides the whole teaching thing, to practice and practice everyday. I need to do this for myself as a way to center myself in this insane world around me. Here is my schedule for my practice and locations:
Monday: 0700-0800 Barnes Field House Mysore
Tuesday: 1600-1700 My home or field across the street (practice with family) Vinyasa Flow
Wednesday: 0600-0700 MWR Rents WTU Gentle Flow/ Restorative
Thursday: 1600-1700 Desert Thunder Gymnastics while Emmie is in class Mysore
Friday: 0700-0800 Barnes Field House Mysore
Saturday: 0800-0900 My home or field across the street Vinyasa
Sunday: 0800-0900 My home or field across the street
This is the goal. Along with my regular schedules. Well good luck and namaste!
