Posture Police

One truly amazing thing about the body is that it will allow you to compensate for bad posture with more bad posture. At first it could just be a forward head, a locked out knee or a rib cage popping forward. Next, your body must adapt by repositioning another part of your body. One muscle lengthens another part shortens to create imbalances in our bodies. Eventually you get an achy back, a tight feeling in your neck or a full blown injury.

As part of the "posture police" you might think I am immune to this..unfortunately, I am not. All of us have muscle imbalances to different degrees. It is one of the reasons I love Pilates and what it can do for my clients and myself.

Next time you are in class, make a really concentrated effort to keep your body in alignment throughout the class. "spine tall, abs up and in, pelvis in neutral, ribs in line with the hips, shoulders gently down, ears in line with shoulders, etc etc!!!

Kathi Hawraney

After 25 years in the fitness industry, I still love to go to work! Thousands of my clients have reached their goals and improved their quality of life.... let me help you! Back in 2000, I participated in my first Pilates class...I was hooked. It felt great to work hard yet feel really fantastic when the class was over. After researching the Pilates method of movement, I decided this was my new pathway in fitness. When training clients now, I am able to combine decades of personal training knowledge with current, cutting edge techniques such as Kettlebell training and TRX suspension training. I teach private clients who require specific fitness programming such as post rehab and sport specific training. In addition, I lead several group Pilates equipment classes and kettlebell classes each week. I am from Manchester, NH where I owned and managed a womens health club. Here in MI, I have co-owned a personal training business and am now the fitness director at The Sports Club of Novi. Let me help you reach your fitness goals. We can begin with a complimentary consultation. Thanks for your time!
