I swear, I get sick at the absolute worst times. I have a huge event on Saturday - training for over 150 employees consisting of Opening Ceremonies, 5 workshops, lunch, and a Closing Ceremonies with Tribal Challenges. The theme: Survivor: San Jose 2011. Outwit, Outlast, Outlive. So pumped for it! But now, I find myself struggling with a killer sore throat, foggy brain, a voice that sounds like it belongs to someone who's been smoking 5 packs a day for the past 50 years, and worst of all: I'm tired.
Here's the main problem I have when I get sick....I hate staying home! Seriously, I call in sick (because I refuse to infect my other co-workers) and by the end of the day I feel like going for a run just to get OUT. So I try to do an easy workout video, and I almost pass out 20 minutes into it. Oops. That's when it hits me - I get so pissed when I'm sick because I hate that I can't exercise my way out of the problem. I won't get "un-sick" by going for a run, or going to a bootcamp class. That's typically my MO when I'm having a rough day - I work it out with blood, sweat and tears in the gym, on the trail, or with the gloves. But if I try to do that when I'm sick, it gets worse. No bueno.
And so, I succumb to what my body is obviously screaming for...rest. I sleep, and sleep, and sleep some more. I guess everyone has to get sick, and sometimes we get sick because it's our body's way of telling us it needs some rest. So, take it! Everything in moderation, even sickness, and especially rest. As long as you're eating well, exercising, and doing a good job of relieving stress, the sickness will pass soon. In my case, it better pass by tomorrow!
