Your mind and thoughts will direct you toward success or failure. Minding your thoughts is fully in your control and one of your most powerful choices you have. Mental training is as important as any physical fitness endeavour you attempt. Regarding physical fitness and the results you seek, your mental state is the key to your success. You begin with the thought of the activity, movement or challenge. Then your mind creates that picture, and the body seeks to replicate what the mind has created. You watch someone do an exercise, you see what to do and you attempt to do the same. Soon after your mind starts racing and thoughts come over you. I can do this. This is hard. This hurts. This feels good. Keep going. Stop! We have all had this experience and inner turmoil while doing something physical. If you haven’t, drop down to the floor right now and do push ups till you have no more strength in your upper body to push any more out or go for a run and listen to your mind as these thoughts begin to appear. Focus your mind on the positive affirmations that arise in your mind and repeat them in your head when you experience the discomfort as your bodies weakness is uncovered. As you prepare for any activity or exercise, focus on the movement, visualize the movement in a successful manner. This is what will push you through any challenge you experience. Beware of the negative thoughts, as soon as they arise replace it with the positive image of the successful movement and verbally affirm your actions. Once you begin to entertain the negative thoughts and self doubt arising from challenging your body and pushing your physical limits, you begin to accept the inevitable failure in your mind. And what the mind creates the body will follow up with action. So train your mind! Work hard on your mental toughness, build the muscles of your mind. Strong mind, strong body!
