So here we are again, Sept 27th. 5 years ago, my dad passed from this earth to the heavens. Today's rain brings certain coolness and sadness, yet a certain solace and serenity, too. I find myself snuggling in with my chai tea and watching cartoons with my daughter - the one my dad never met. Today also brings about a self reflection. - Am I doing what I can to improve my life and help others along the way? Unfortunately for my dad, many years of poor choices took a long time to take over, and by that time - it was too late. Certainly, when my dad became sick we knew our time with him would end sooner than later. And certain circumstances took him even sooner. So as I stop and think what could we have done differently? The answer is hard but simple: PREVENTION. He could have made better choices early on in his twenties. But he didn't. He spent his 50s and 60s deteriorating faster than he could recover.
So efforts to better yourself Must. Begin. NOW. It's never too late to take good care of yourself! I don't just mean diet and exercise (of course they are critical components to health). We can all take steps to move more and eat better.
I am talking about the magic of the human spirit: expressing gratitude and having a PoSiTiVe attitude. Let's not worry too much about enjoying coffee or an occasional doughnut or even a plate of fish and chips. Enjoy what makes you happy, and be kind to yourself. Go out of your way to make someone else happy. Compliment the next person you see whose shirt or dress you like. Your kind comment could be the difference in their day being good or bad. Let's not be so quick to anger when someone steals a parking spot, or if your child spills a drink. Life truly is too short to let the little things build up. We are who we are by the way we respond to things. So take some extra deep breaths today. Go out walk in the rain. Watch children and let them lead the way. They see the world how it is, not how cultures and societies decide how it "should" be.
Be HAPPY you are ALIVE!
