How Exercise can help limit your risk for Breast Cancer

By Michael Massafra

Sorry that this blog has come a little late. I had a little bit of a busy week and also a little under the weather. This week I would like to talk about how exercise can help limit your risk for Breast Cancer. As I talked about before there are many risk factors to breast cancer, some of which are beyond your control, such as medical history, age, and family history. There are however some risk factors you can control, such as weight, diet and exercise.
With regular exercise, you can help maintain a healthy weight and reduce stress. Research has shown that 5 hours of exercise a week may lower the risk of Breast Cancer. While it’s still not clear how hard or long women need to exercise, some studies have shown that strenuous exercise, such as lap swimming, aerobics, running and some weight training, adds to a growing body of evidence that rigorous activity lowers Breast Cancer risk. Women who engaged in this type of exercise for more than 5 hours a week had a 20% lower risk of invasive Breast Cancer and 31% lower risk of early stage Breast Cancer, compared to women who did less than 30 min. of exercise every week.
In Good Health,
Michael
