I think I am feeling the burnout. 11 group fitness classes per week, training clients, teaching TRX courses and being a mom...it is all adding up!!! What do you do for burnout???
My yearly course of action for the when I feel burnout coming on is to take a break! I always take 2 weeks off during the Christmas holidays and allow myself to enjoy good food and drink with friends and family. I enable my body to recover, rest and repair.
When the holiday season is not around, I get subs for classes adjust my training schedule, go out on dates with my husband (smiles) and get to bed earlier than usual.
Burnout is common in our industry and it is vital to stay on top of it. I believe it is important to schedule rest and recovery.
Take a break!
When I think back to the first day I steopped foot into a group fitness class, I never thought I would end up where I am today.
I was only 15 years old when I went to my first step class in the small town of Kindersley, Saskatchewan, Canada. I attended a class by an instructor named Cheryl. She was wonderful! Great choreography, easy to follow and fun! I took a few more classes from Cheryl and eventually she asked if I ever thought about teaching. I remember going home to my mom that night and telling her. My mom's response; "Why don't you try it!" And that was 20 years ago and I am still involved 100% in the fitness industry and see myself nowhere else.
I have loved every minute of my job. What could you not love as a trainer/instructor. Teaching fitness is the most positive, rewarding experience there is. My favorite part is seeing my clients/participants work to their max. Seeing them push themselves harder than they ever thought they could. I believe every one has more potential than they think they do and I love to pull that out!
It has been 20 great years and I know there are 20 more to come! This is only the beginning of my career and I look forward to every day and what each day will bring.
Stay healthy, positive and in love with what you do!
