Welcome to my blog! Where to begin?...
My name is Miley. Not Miley Cyrus, Miley Joyce. I have a passion for dance, and I love to share my passion with others. I have always either been on a dance team, or taught dance to others... really, since I can remember, dance has always been a huge part of my life. I have danced for basketball teams, baseball teams, and I have taught fitness classes at multiple locations.
After working in an office setting for 8 years, I decided that I wanted to try something new. I wanted to be more available to teach dance fitness classes to children, teens, and adults, so I quit my 40 hour a week job. So far, things have been great. I am teaching Cardio Dance Fitness and Zumba classes at gyms and business offices, and I am working on teaching at my church. I even got to participate at "career day" at a preschool where I had the opportunity to teach a sample class to about 100 kids. (I had 20 minutes with about 20 students, and then the next group would come in) That was the highlight of my month. I love teaching children, and hope to expand my career by offering classes to kiddos.
Why do I like teaching kids? Well.... I am not going to lie. I am a kid at heart. I love Disney Music, Disney Movies, Hula Hooping, Simon Says, pretty much anything that involves the innocence of having fun and just being a kid. Kids enjoy the simple things in life, and I can relate to them.
I have noticed that kids spend most of their time in front of the TV either watching TV shows or playing video games that do not require them to move more than their fingers. Kids are getting less active and wanting to spend less time doing what I did best as a kid…. Playing. I played hard. I was always riding my bike, building an imaginary tree house, swimming, playing tag, having “dance recitals” in the front yard, and countless other activities. I think we need to get kids off the couch, and on the dance floor. I want them to focus on being active by dancing, playing games, and learning about what they can do to be healthy. Most of all, I want to make it fun. All in all, I want to start a Kidfit program. The name says it all; it will be a kid fitness program.
I hope to have my first Kidfit class next week. I would like to give people the opportunity to come check it out and see what I have to offer. Wish me luck!
