I am 43 years old, happily married, and the mother of 5 wonderful children. Over the past few years, I have made a complete LIFESTYLE change. It has been a process. I've made a lot of mistakes along the way and learned many lessons the hard way. Because so many people influenced me and taught me, I want to help others down this path.
As a young person, I ate whatever I wanted and never worried about gaining weight. When I went to college I was so afraid of the "freshman 15" that I began a destructive pattern of starving and binging. I had the best of both worlds: I stayed slim, and once in awhile ate whatever I wanted.
Moving to a new state, graduate school, marriage, more moving, FIVE children in 7 years, home-schooling ... LIFE..... I got BUSY and exercise and nutrition were not priorities. At all of 5"3', I tipped the scale at over 170 pounds. It was not pretty, and I did NOT feel good physically or emotionally. I lost 35 pound using a popular diet "plan" but did not intentionally change my activity level. I had no plan for fitness. After I stopped following "the plan," I gained some of the weight back. The "plan" promised real change, but it was not the complete LIFESTYLE change I needed!
In 2007 (and yet another move), I began working with a personal trainer. I loved knowing how to exercise effectively and even began running. I quickly learned that I could not out-train a bad diet. I was feeling stronger but not seeing the results I was hoping for.
In 2011, I began working with a nutrition coach, Ruben Sandoval with Fit To Be In Your Kitchen. Pairing healthy eating WITH an exercise plan was exactly the complete LIFESTYLE change I needed to make. I saw RESULTS both in terms of how I looked and how I felt! The weight came off and is staying off.
While my weight does fluctuate some and I feel like I am always a "work in progress," I have found that I LOVE the process and enjoy teaching others. I decided to get my personal training certification and help others learn how to make their own complete LIFESTYLE change.
