Unless you wake up with stiff muscles or being seated for too long stiffens you up, stretching may be worth considering. Yet, not many people dedicate time to solely making flexibility training a part of their weekly workout. Stretching is very important just like the rest of your workout progam. However, it's not easy to spend time holding a position as you stretch it out because it feels so ineffective compared to a cardio or strength training exercise. You are reaping benefits because you will get to a point where you feel great afterwards and look forward to it the next time but it took a little investment, 10-30 seconds at a time, to ahieve that sense of satisfaction.
Remember it is not a waste of time and that's the point.
This is the last night for our Zumba Masterclass. It's hard to understand how can someone workout for 1 1/2 hour but the flip side is someone who does not workout at all and yes hates it. The beauty is to start somewhere and work your way up: 10 minutes is the most one person can do then celebrate that accomplishment. However, there are those of us that look for the opportunity to be challenged and see what we're made of.
The first 45 minutes is Zumba Toning followed by Zumba. Make sure you carbed up before class and drank enough water too. My favorite is a baked potato and salad.
Look forward to seeing you tonight.
You know when everyone is having a great time in class...they do not want it to end. Well, tonight was the last class for my outdoor Aqua Zumba. We had a great time! The following link will provide you with more Zumba information: http://nannettedukes.zumba.com/
We are half way through the summer. Hard to believe that it was not too long ago we were celebrating Memorial Day. How have you used the summer time to stay active? Are you putting to the test what you have gained in staying fit from your hard work the previous nine months? Summer should be a time to enjoy with family and friends. It's a great time to participate in activities we may not do during the other months of the year. Also, depending on where one lives, the weather may be more appropriate for certain types of activities.
However, the summer has many of us slacking off from our fitness routine because we don't want to miss one moment of this season or we'll say 'there is always tomorrow'. The concern with taking it easy during this season is when you want to come back in the fall and jump in to exercise classes or fitness programs some people may start slow and that's great. Those that want to participate in a heavy workout schedule and didn't do so during the summer must take caution. The body adapts to what you put it through. For example, swimming was the activity in the summer but for the fall you want to get into four days of intense exercise classes and haven't done this before...you're body may be more prone to injury.
Whatever activities you are looking forward to do in the fall prepare the body for it. You want exercise to promote the body's ability to handle what you throw at it but the body needs time to acclimate. Enjoy the rest of the summer!
It's the second week in January and the weather has been amazing for this month in Chicago. Did you enjoy walking, join a gym, take a fitness class, buy fitness equipment for your home, or at least try exercise videos through on-demand? Remember, if you don't use it you lose it. Unfortunately, this doesn't apply to losing weight. You have to do something active to lose weight, if that's the goal.
Now, if you have done your strengthening exercises and then stop doing it you will see a difference in regards to your strength and enduranc,.especially, when you return to perform those exercises. It may not be a very significant change depending on how long ago those exercises were last performed. So, back to the question how's your resolution going? Enjoy what you can outdoor but have a plan B when the weather changes and keep it simple. Happy Second Week of the New Year!
It sounds basic but there's a difference between a 10 year old moving to Just Dance for the sake of just wanting to do it compared to the 40 and up group needing to move more often for the health of it. Remember how your mind makes you feel 20-something and after working out your body reminds you for three days what muscle(s) you worked out so your body makes you feel 100-something. Do not let those muscles psyche you out of the next workout.
If you hibernated these last two weeks especially if your kids were out of school then make an appointment with yourself to go for a walk. Enjoy the weather while you can. Enjoy the festivities of this New Year's Eve weekend without going over board. Enjoy the first day of the week with a smile to those muscles letting them know whose boss. Happy New Year!
