Thanksgiving is around the corner, and everyone's looking forward to getting together with family and indulging (why not?).
Fortunately, we have put together 10 ways for you to 'have your turkey and eat it too.'
Here they are:
1. Drink plenty of water throughout the week - especially before heavy meals.
2. Walk off that big dinner (you can even make it a family outing and exercise while enjoying one another's company.
3. Create a caloric deficit by upping your exercise routine the week of the big meal.
4. Make simple substitutions, such as lighter milk and cream, to enjoy your favorite treats without the heavy health impact.
5. Make small cutbacks on sugars and salts involved in the cooking process as most recipes call for more than is needed.
6. Continue to have evenly-paced meals throughout the day. Having a normal breakfast and lunch will help you to refrain from overdoing it at dinner and dessert.
7. Use smaller plates. Many times people will overeat purely because they pile larger portions onto wide plates. Give yourself a mental edge by using a smaller plate and having smaller portions.
8. Eat slowly to allow your body time to begin digestion. You may find yourself feeling full far earlier than you would have thought.
9. Beware of alcohol intake. It's easy to drink more than your normal amount during holidays, but too much alcohol can cause a variety of problems, including dehydration.
10. Relax. Stress is a huge health risk and contributes to a vast variety of ailments. Allow yourself to enjoy the holiday.
Okay, here we go again. Plastic surgery techniques are improving and availabe to just about anyone; but, does the outward appearance result in overall health? Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder, besides, we are our own worst critics.
You still need to take care of your health after the procedure; so, why not save money and the risk involved, by taking care of your health from the start? Think about it: what good does shrinking the fat cells surgically do if you are going to revert to the poor habit lifestyle?
Please try speaking with others who have had success with improving their health and fitness. You could try speaking with your friends, neighbors, coworkers, doctors, etc., to find out what works for them and bounce ideas off each other. People will be more than happy to help you and share their own success story, I am sure.
So why not go outdoors and strike up a conversation with someone or just enjoy the sights and sounds? Make this the first step on your way to a lifetime of good health and happiness.
We have all heard that walking is one of the best ways to get your exercise; since, we are made to walk; but, have you heard the story about the person who literally healed themselves by walking? A man was told by his doctor that he needed surgery to remove a blood clot from his leg or he could walk to improve the situation and avoid an operation.
Believe it or not, the walking program this man adhered to made more blood vessels to detour blood flow around the blood clot. No surgery needed and the man is fully recovered without going under the knife.
How is that for motivation? Good thing I love to walk. I hope to see you all out there.
Thank you, reporters, for reminding the public to get in good physical condition before the Pope arrives. The residents of Philadelphia and visitors must be able to travel independently, long distances on hard concrete surfaces and be prepared for any weather condition. I am sure there are many who commute without the use of public transportation, run races, and take care of their health all year long, who laugh in the face of surprises like this one in Philadelphia: no cars allowed in certain areas and you may leave but not re-enter with the vehicle.
There is the reason to be in your best physical condition at all times: besides being ready for man-made rules, there are natural occurrences to consider.
Don't you feel better when you are able to enjoy something without thinking of what is uncomfortable?...for instance: head, neck, shoulder, hand, feet, back, knee, hip, endurance capacity, etc.
No one likes to see or hear the obese word; but, there is good news. This too can be taken care of, with the proper help. Please check with Medicare for one year's worth of free obesity counseling, which is a new benefit being offered.
Best of health to everyone.
To all those people who ask me how runners are able to continue without pain, here is a piece of news that may interest you: "Up to 70% of recreational and competitive runners sustain overuse injuries during any 12-month period." This is reported in the IDEA Fitness Journal, June 2015, IDEA fitnographic by Joy Keller and Judy Meyer.
Thank you to IDEA, ACE also, for keeping us informed.
Please do not give up on your exercise program; call it active break time if that makes you feel better.
If all you are doing is sleeping better, then it is working. Now pay attention to what else is going on: better mood, more energy, stronger, clearer mind, etc.
Please hold on to those factors to keep yourself motivated and moving forward, even if it feels as though the progress may take long. Tip: sometimes it takes longer to see results than we wish or expect.
Now, have you found anything that exercise is not able to help? Please let me know; I will probably find a good side or silver lining, if you will.
Best of health to everyone.
Mark Twain is known for mentioning that we need to be careful reading health books, we may die of a misprint.
Isn't that so true? Butter is good, butter is bad, butter is good. Eggs are good, eggs are bad, eggs are good. These reports will continue until the end of time.
My best advice is to take care of your individual needs over following advice geared to the general public. Who is the general public and what are the needs and goals? Men and women are different, yet, not always tested as such. Then we have nationalities with their own traits...so much to take into consideration.
Please take all the information you read, hear and see, take that to your doctor and find the best course of action with the help of all professionals at your disposal.
An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. Who is credited with that one?
Here is another directory for you to find NCCA accredited trainers in order to get the best fitness training possible. This should help you find what you need to reach those health and fitness goals.
Best of health to you.
How is everyone doing with the new year's resolution? Is it somewhat difficult to keep all your goals in view? Have you slipped off the bandwagon and thought to yourself, what's the point?
Stop and think to yourself...it is too soon to give up. Keep telling yourself that... every day, every hour, every minute, each and every little slip up...it is too soon to give up. Call your confidant for a powwow, or better yet, make it a moving meeting: bike, walk, skate, etc., doing what makes you smile and open up, to help break through the stalemate.
You could also have a healthy cooking session. Isn't the meal preparation half the fun when you have help and great conversation? Continue the meeting while consuming the delectable nutrition, all guilt free. I bet you will learn new ideas and tips from each other, too.
Happy new year to you all; let's make it another memorable year of sticking to our own amazingly enjoyable healthy lifestyle.
