If you've kept up with the workings of the food industry this past week, then you're likely to have heard that Whole Foods, the most popular chain of organic grocery stores in the United States, is dropping Chobani yogurt products from its offerings. The official reasoning behind this is that Chobani products contain Genetically Modified Organisms (or GMOs, for short) despite product packaging stating that all Chobani ingredients are completely natural. While false advertising is always a legitimate reason to end a retail partnership like the one I just described, there's a larger issue at hand: the GMOs.
Since the Industrial Revolution, GMOs have been used in various processed foods, particularly in grain and dairy products your grocery store regularly stocks on its shelves. If you've read any of my previous blog posts, you know that I am a huge proponent of eliminating wheat, grains and processed foods from your diet ENTIRELY if you want to maximize the benefits of your diet and exercise routines. A main reason for this has to do with the inclusion of GMOs in these products.
In my previous article, 'Stop Eating Wheat: A Surefire Way to Lose Those Last Few Pounds and Possibly Save Your Life,' I go into brief detail regarding why current wheat and grain products tend to have negative effects on humans. These negative effects include, but are not limited to: the acquisition of visceral fat, accumulation of inflammation and plaque within your arteriesand, ultimately, the onset of various common killers like heart disease, various forms of cancer and Alzheimer's.
The reason all of this happens is because these products have been genetically modified from start-to-finish in preparation for sale to the public, and our bodies have not yet evolved to properly digest and absorb the contaminants within these foods. Obesity rates worldwide (but particularly in the US) are higher than ever, while there are more and more documented cases of individuals falling ill to the common killers described above. Don't become a cautionary tale 20 years down the road because you didn't hear the warnings now: "eat meats, vegetables, nuts and seeds, some fruit, little starch and no sugar," stay away from processed and genetically-modified foods, and your chances of maintaining your health through your diet will grow exponentially.
