The core is much more than that. The core includes the muscles in your low back, your hips, and most of the muscles that attach up and down your... spine. If you only train them one way, you are setting yourself up for a lifetime of hurt.
Your core's main function is stability. This is where we ALWAYS start. Add these 3 moves to your next training session.
