A New Year

By Sharon Johnson-May

My son has been reminding me that in the movie "2012", the world comes to an end. From the eyes of a child, everything appears shortsighted, perhaps bleak, and not a little dramatic.

We know that the world will not come to an end. But what  about your own personal world? Im refering to your body, your health? How do you feel today? As good as you'd like?

We also know that it takes several weeks to establish new behaviors. Slower is better and most important, expectations need to remain realistic. One could even say LOW!! That's because more people STOP their journeys toward better health because they've set themselves up to fail. How? By holding the bar too high, believing that they are 20 or 30 years younger than they actually are, and forgetting that they have real life responsibilities and stressors.

Getting healthy is a day by day process. Any success story that you read brings home the fact that EVERYONE suffers setbacks. No one is immune to this simple fact. Is it because     you're weak, undisciplined, lacking will power?

A thousand NO's. It's because you are human, because you have a family, a job, a home....

What to do? Get back to it. A little bit every day. Consistency is the key. Keep your eyes on the road ahead. Get the Big Picture. Your life, the Big Picture.

Happy New Year
