Recently a childhood friend posted some photos of the 1968 swim team, a precious black-and-white collection of about 40 kids in our speedo suits tanned and mugging for the camera. I was a springboard diver back then and we had an unbeatable dive team, many of us taking high honors in the county championships.
What a great education in community effort that was, celebrating both the individual and the individual's contribution to the team. All the while working hard and having fun! Those basic elements don't change over time. My community now is the Fitness Center - and I work at 2 locations, the YMCA and in a corporate environment - where I still see honest effort, support, and comaraderie among all the members and staff.
When we get together and move it seems to improve life, simplistic I know, but proven to be true. In my profession I want to help everyone to find the type of movement that brings them happiness and inspires them to keep coming back for more.
