Writing this blog post today I realize that there are many many more certification agencies than ever before in the history of Fitness.  When I first got started in the business there was only one IDEA.  Now it is crazy.    Some clubs require a basic certifcation plus if you are teaching a specialty class a certification in that class.  My club only requested one but I gave them all.  ACE Personal Trainer, ACE Group Exercise, and Zumba.

Some people are risk takers and some are not.  Research shows it's not just a behavour but a personality.  Are you a risk taker?  It appears that I am although I never would have considered I was.  My career in the fitness industry began in 1985 and through the years my personal accomplishments have been extremely rewarding.  Recently I decided to 'go for it' and open my own facility. The determination on this client of mine is like nothing ive ever seen! She came to me wanting to lose weight and tone up... I had no idea how much she would actually put into it but I was ready to run if she was.Day one came and it wasnt looking good... barely a 20 second plank (on the forearms) and 20 squats and she had taken a seat.3 months later..She has bought 3 new pairs each one 2 sizes smaller than the last.She flips 500lb tires.She can do L sits on the parallel bars and is well on her way to doing pullups.

Fall is my favorite season, but the change in weather and daylight can throw your health and fitness routine out the window. Don't let the cooler season get the best of you. Lazy days of Summer are behind us and the busy hustle and bustle of Fall is here! Between work, the holidays, grocery shopping, errands, etc., it's easy to push exercise to the bottom of the list. It should be just as much a priority as any other appointment you have. Put exercise on the calendar!

I hear this statement all the time, “heavy weights with low repetitions will bulk you up while light weights with high repetitions will tone you up”.   Is there a difference in these two types of training?  The answer is yes – but it’s not about the way you look, it’s about the muscle strength vs. muscle endurance.
