While technology has allowed us to live without moving an inch from our seat and work from the comfort of our bedrooms, this modern lifestyle has its disadvantages too. We have become used to sedentary jobs where wesit in one spot all day and our bodies suffer badly. We live in a polluted environment where the air we breathe does not have enough of what our body needs most – oxygen. This is why we experience depleted stamina and loss of energy even after very light exercise.
The title of this blog adequately describes what happened the first session of week 2. The participants are in this program to improve their fitness levels, body comps and lifestyle. All the while having individual goals in a group environment. Okay- So what the heck happened last night?!?! A few words come to mind; loaded for bear and challenge me with a butt kickin! The workout was absolutely owned by each and every one of them!!!
If you are following this blog please help me cheer these gals on. They absolutely rocked their group workout this morning! Energies were high and with obvious determination they powered though RIP TIDE. In the coming hours I am sure they will be icing, foam rolling and stretching! It's a good thing we covered those 3 very important revovery items. :) If things continue as they are now there is no doubt what so ever that goals will be met and every one of these ladies will continue their journey. Check ya later and have a great weekend!
Tomorrow we kick off a challenging six week program. 2 teams of 7 will work individually and as a group to rally up by improving their body comps and weight. The person who creates the most change will win a years membership to Balance Personal Training's FIT LAB. Throughout our journey I'll be blogging our progress. Let's all rally around all these hard working individuals!
Postprandial lipemia“huh? Hang with me while I try and explain it. It’s the triglycerides (blood fat) response to a meal. So, depending on how much fat or sugar is consumed in a meal, a person’s triglycerides will rise for 2-6 hours after a meal. These can rise anywhere from 120 to 300+ mg/dl and even higher for those who have diseases such as obesity, metabolic syndrome, or type 2 diabetes.
Labor Day, the holiday that indicates summer's over is just around the corner. Where has the time gone? Seems like were we just looking forward to the Memorial Holiday and about to kick off summer. The older I get the more I realize time is precious and fleeting. Fact is I feel as though I should be working right now. Throwing caution to the wind, taking a walk on the wild side, here I sit thinking. Thinking about time, goals and the fact I need to get my 'ducks in a row' so to speak. Goals...
Some people are risk takers and some are not. Research shows it's not just a behavour but a personality. Are you a risk taker? It appears that I am although I never would have considered I was. My career in the fitness industry began in 1985 and through the years my personal accomplishments have been extremely rewarding. Recently I decided to 'go for it' and open my own facility. After all, why not? Do I want to always wonder about the 'what if's'? Bam...
Last night as I watched our Olympians race my thoughts went behind the scenes. Their drive, what they give up - but most importantly what makes them different from the rest of us. I believe it takes heart and an amazing amount of support. The majority of our Olympic athletes are the youth of today. Not seasoned college athletes who turned pro. Some of their stories are really amazing. One athlete races for himself and his handicapped brother. Our female snowboarder is deathly afraid of heights.
