In the wake of a New Year and our personal resolutions, we sometimes forget about what's best for the others around us. In the case of parents in the United States, their kids should be a top priority.
They're listening. The little ones who whine that they want a snack, need help going potty, want you to pick them up...put them down....The little ones whos tears can break your heart and smiles lift you to the moon. They're listening...to every word you say.
There comes a point as mothers that our children are competing in sports. Often times we act solely as chauffer and cheerleader. Ushering them to practice and games. Making sure they have their required gear and physicals. We sit on the sidelines taking pictures and cheering them on.
I became a mom 8 years ago this week. Wow how time flies! I've since had 2 additional children. In that time I've also had the priviledge to work with lots of moms with children of their own. We've worked one on one and in a group setting. During that time, I've learned a lot about the challenges and opportunities that working out as a mom with small children can provide. I still believe, in the depths of my soul, that as a mother you do an incredible service to your children to workout around them. They learn from your example
Bullying has evolved to dangerous levels for kids. The most recent method of bullying is taking place against kids that can become severly sick or even die from anaphylaxis due to food allergies. Get in a workout whenever or where ever you are! Seriously, there are times when I am folding laundry and I start to feel a small ball of frustration because I know I have something else to get done right after...So I see how long I can hold a squat or I do calf raises while folding. If I can't workout (in a grocery store, any place of worship) then I envision it. The more I envision it the more likely I am going to do it.
Hey everyone!I’ve been volunteering my fitness and wellness services at one of the Homeless Shelters in San Jose. The women and children have been giving me such positive feedback on the benefits of the activities we do together. They have been feeling more optimistic and are learning about the importance of fitness and taking “mental vacations”. Some have requested I come more often and others suggested I expand to other shelters in the area. So, I’m doing it!
