Strengthening your core is fundamental to building a healthy, safe exercise regimen. Core exercises strengthen the entire body, particularly the pelvic floor, hip, and lower back. Crunches, reverse crunches, oblique cross over crunches, plank, butt lifts are some examples of this type of exercise. They improve flexibility and strengthen the entire body, reduce lower back problems, and promote breathing and lung capacity. These exercises focus on the deep abdominal muscles. Core exercises strengthen and flatten your abs making your body look better.

Core Exercises are always in style right? If I had a $100 for every time I have been asked what is the best core exercise, I would be writing this blog from the beach in Punta Cana, lol!Seriously, core exercises have their place and are important to do. Snow Shoveling BenefitsSnow shoveling season is here. It is that time of year where we break out those shovels in preparation for what we just experienced this past weekend in the DC Metro area (or the majority of the East Coast). While I know snow shoveling is not high on the priority list of fun things to do, it can be very helpful for your body.

I have spent my entire teaching career focusing on Pilates and mindful movement.  I love the depth and breadth of this work.  I feel energized when I see a client feel the work deeply for the first time and understand that to be truly present in their exercise sessions brings about great change.  I recently had the opportunity to take a Spinning certification course.  I was very nervous walking into this class for several reasons.  For starters, this form of exercise was out of my comfort zone.  I teach slow, controlled, precise movements; not spinning!

With all the hype & earlier start of the holiday season, we can get tangled up in the superficial social aspects of Thanksgiving, Christmas, Hanukkah. We all need to take a step back to define what is important about these celebrations. In between the food, drink, excessive gift giving, we lose the feeling of family, togetherness, our continued healthy living-looking after what is truly important. Is 1 more batch of cookies, 1 more drink, extending our budget more important than staying connected w/ our loved ones & continuing to care for our mind, body & soul?
