When you come in for a cycling class know that you're going to walk out of the room in less than an hour a lot STRONGER and HEALTHIER than you thought was possibleFor the next 45-60 minutes, you have no meetings, no text messages, no one needing to be picked up. It's just you, a bike and the rhythm of music to take you through a journey of contrasts.Benefits of indoor cycling include cardiovascular health (lowers blood pressure and LDL), stress reliever aka “runner high”, increases muscle strength and endurance, low impact and a major calorie burn.

While recently visiting my peeps in Miami, I attended a cycling class at a popular boutique indoor cycling studio. I'm extremely picky about instructors and workouts, but I'm training for my next triathlon and rather than skip my workout completely I prepared myself to do my own thing if I needed to because of whatever foolishness I would encounter in the class. I was hoping to be pleasantly surprised that the class would follow safetly guidelines and that the drills would be effective, but that is not exactly how it went.

I have spent my entire teaching career focusing on Pilates and mindful movement.  I love the depth and breadth of this work.  I feel energized when I see a client feel the work deeply for the first time and understand that to be truly present in their exercise sessions brings about great change.  I recently had the opportunity to take a Spinning certification course.  I was very nervous walking into this class for several reasons.  For starters, this form of exercise was out of my comfort zone.  I teach slow, controlled, precise movements; not spinning!

School’s back in session & that means more sitting for a population that needs to move to be mentally & physically healthy! Have you been keeping your kids active this summer? If so, you may be concerned about how to keep that up now. Students need at least 60 minutes a day of movement. If your student is not in involved in a sport where are some ways to keep them active. Get them outside, turn the TV off , start the day off with a stretch. We are the only mammals that don't do that! Animals actively stretch automatically when they get up.

The other day a few students and colleagues were engaged in an online chat about a spin class the gist of which was that the class was difficult and awesome. The end result of the exchange was to make me want to go take the class.
