As I look back at the previous two weeks of the Pilates challenge, there are two things I have discovered. One is how Pilates changes your body in so many ways, not just core strength. I've always been very aware of my posture. My grandmother had severe Kyphosis, also known as "hunchback" and I never wanted to end up like that. However, as my day goes on and I begin to feel fatigued, my posture can suffer. Pilates is very much about posture. During some of the workouts, I would be reminded of ballet classes when I was a child.
Yoga before mommyhood is competely different from yoga after mommyhood. No more running out th door to get to whatever class I can hit. No more staying at the studio after hours to get my practice in, regardess of time. These days, my yoga mat is often covered with stuffed animals and Dora blanket. Ashtanga yoga is my main practice, and I've always had a home practice, but it's getting harder and harder to fit everything in a day, and get more than five hours of sleep.
Five days into the 21 Day Challenge! I have scheduled workouts at Rivercity on Sundays, but have found it a bit of a challenge to get in a second class day with my schedule. No worries, I got in a 20 minute Pilates workout at home yesterday. I think this is a great addition to my cardio and strength training. I have to say my abs were a bit sore after Sunday's workout. I love it and I'm looking forward to class this Sunday!
When it comes to getting fit, an education in body awareness is the most important step in changing the way you look and feel. Take that first step with a Pilates and learn the true core principles of this amazing method of exercise. Use these core principles as your foundation for movement. Make Pilates part of your regular fitness routine.
Counting from the age of exercise Pilates is on the younger side. Pilates was first created by Josef Pilates in the early 90's. In the beginning he created Pilates to help strengthen those who were injured laying in hospital beds. From there dancers were the first to take to the routine and concept of Pilates. Today it seems that everyone has heard of it, tried it or is participating in Pilates.
