The fall always makes me want soup. I love soup, and it is one of the things that is sometimes dissapointing in eating out that a food that can be so healthy is often caloric without flavor and heavy without depth. A cream soup, in my mind, can be a wonderful treat, but I don't want it often, and if I am going to have it I want it to be really worth it. At least 20 years ago my younger brother, who is a chef, made a cream of broccoli soup for Christmas that was so good I ate 3 bowls and didn't have anything else he made.
Every once in a while in yoga class I will find myself saying “And there we are back to Aristotle.” When I say that it doesn't mean that I want to reference Aristotle's entire philosophical work, or even his entire ethics, but that I think yoga plays out his contention that the good is to be found in a balanced state between lack and excess. To give a really oversimplified example: self starvation is bad, and gluttony is bad, but healthy eating is good.
A few days ago I posted a photo on my Facebook page of my lunch. I had been trying to keep my fridg stocked with pre made healthy choices, and given that I had seen a lot of photos of oreos and such recently, I wanted to share a thought of some ways one could eat quickly AND healthfully. That day I was having kale with garlic and lemon, spiced chickpeas with ginger, and brown rice with turmeric and cilantro.
We are living in a Results driven society.Everyone wants microwavable results.Quick.Fast.In a hurry.The problem is these results that they seek require long term effort.They are so wrapped up in purchasing the next new thing and forget to use basic fundamentals laws of health and wellness. They will trade sleep for an energy drink. They will trade a decent meal for an appetite suppressant.This is a crude wakeup call.You cant live like this forever!
There are so many topics I want to cover regarding a vegan diet, among other things, and I hope to answer many of your questions. One of the questions I got was regarding vitamin B12, and I hope to provide a decent summary here. It is somewhat technical but I tried to provide some translation for my non medical/research readers. Of course this is by no means an exhaustively researched paper and there’s much more to know. My references are included for those of you who would like to read more in depth about this topic.
Someone recommended that I visit vegan restaurants in the Miami area and write about them, and I will, but to be honest I don't know if this is actually that helpful. Part of what I want to do with this blog topic is not only to help educate people on health and practicing veganism (or at least eating more plants than before), but how to do it in a practical way. Getting vegan food in a vegan restaurant is easy, getting vegan food in a restaurant where your carnivorous friends want to eat can be a different story!
