Today is "Study Day" at UCA, which marks one special day of the semester when students will call/email/text to ask "When will you be in your office today.... I need to discuss my grade/talk to you about what I can do to get an A in your class....", to which I get to reply "I won't be in my office today."  Oh, the stress of being a student and/or a teacher (and/or ANYONE in the world today, really!)....

 It sure is easy to feel that way when an otherwise fit and healthy person (me) tries yoga. I began to be intrigued when participants in my MELT classes (or Pilates for that matter) all of a sudden told me that that ‘was yoga’. I am not a yoga teacher, and I am also not a yoga practitioner but I respect this modality highly. I am also aware that there are many schools of yoga which can vary quite fundamentally from one another in addition to all the hybrid creations of the western world (my favorite is probably hip-hop yoga).

Yesterday I went on my first run in over 6 months!  I felt like a school girl waitting to go on a first date.  A little scared.  A little nervous.  A little excited.  As I laced up my sneakers, I worried if the pain would return.  Was I really healed?  Had the all the months of physical therapy worked?

All year long we look forward to the month of December. Celebrating the holidays with family and friends. Remembering old traditions and creating new ones. Reconnecting with people you may not have seen for awhile. It also means more things being added to our to do lists. Shopping, wrapping, mailing, parties, cooking, etc. To create room for these new to dos, something often has to be removed. For many of us, that something is our workout. But it doesn't have to be! Exercise doesn't have to mean a trip to the gym or an hour long session.

What do most people imagine when the word “yoga” comes to mind? They envision twisting up like a pretzel, right? Then they start to feel that they are not fit enough, young enough, or flexible enough to take part in yoga. But nothing could be further from the truth. It’s never too late to improve your strength and flexibility. Inflexibility, soreness, and exhaustion due to lactic acid build up in the muscles are released when you stretch by safely flowing from one yoga pose to another.
