So I have been forced to "take it easy" for a while due to a knee injury. I "hit the pavement" (literally) back in March and ended up cracking my knee cap and causing some other knee issues. I had surgery on the problem knee in the past so it wasn't 100% in the first place. I was told I needed surgery again, which didn't make this runner very happy.
Surgery is now complete and I am feeling good. Well, now that I have started running again I must admit I am a little frustrated due to the fact that I can't run as fast as I used to. Taking months off from running was good for my body but not for my run time.... But every day I add a bit more mileage and when doing intervals I am getting a little faster. Small “baby steps” and determination and hopefully I will be back to where I was, maybe even better.
The message here is to try and not let things frustrate you. When problems are out of your control look for other ways to satisfy your needs. For example I had to focus on other ways to get my heart rate up that didn't involve the use of my legs, and boy could I get creative! So when life throws things at you that you weren't expecting, and that gets you out of your routine, try not to fight it and look for other things that make you happy. AND maybe you will find something else that you enjoy that you wouldn't have ever tried. On another note, part of the fun on running or doing sports is training and to see improvement in yourself. That is what it is all about.
