Do you believe that your inner dialogue – your ‘self-talk’- has the power to create your life? With our words and thoughts we are continually creating our life experience – in every moment. Think about that for a moment. If your inner dialogue goes something like, “Who’s going to want to hire me? I’m not as good as all the others. I need to lose weight. People will dismiss me as soon as they see me.” That’s exactly the image you’re going to project.
When our self-talk is a constant stream of negativity, it holds us back from stepping into the life we really want. Instead we just stay in our current comfort zone even if it isn’t exactly what we desire. Our inner dialogue is based on beliefs that we’ve learned through our life experiences. Some of these beliefs enhance our lives, while others may be sabotaging us from achieving what we want. Some of our self-talk is based on invalid or inappropriate impressions or untruths.
What can we do to create positive self-talk? How do we make our inner dialogue compatible with what we really want in this life? One way is to use positive affirmations – crowd out the destructive thoughts with constructive ones! Positive affirmations can manifest real change in your life by reprogramming your mind.
For example, affirmations for health:
- I nourish my body, mind, and soul through healthful living.
- My body is healthy and heals quickly
Affirmations for weight loss might be:
- I make positive, healthy choices for myself
- I eat nutritious foods and exercise regularly
Affirmations for happiness might look like:
- I love my life and find joy and happiness in each day
- I choose to be happy, content, and open to wonderful things flowing into my life.
Start to listen more closely to your inner dialogue. Is it positive self-talk that raises your self-esteem? Or is it having an adverse effect on your life, your health, your confidence? If so, change it up!
Make your affirmation short, to the point, easy to remember. Let it become your new personal mantra. Post it on your bathroom mirror, on your fridge – in many visual places. Wear a special bracelet that will remind you about your healthy, positive mantra.
The more you listen to the positives the more you’ll believe them and start stepping further into the life you’ve been wanting. Try it. It works.
