My husband had a revelation the other day while eating his fast food sandwich. Although it tasted good, he somehow knew it wasn’t real. The flavors that popped in his mouth were not being totally truthful. They were designed, engineered ….manipulated. This was a big moment for him, the realization that his food was tricking him, not just him but all of us, in to a palate that isn’t satisfied by fresh food but requires a concoction of high sodium, sugar and fat to reach satiety.
Sometimes chocolate is added to Mexican dishes to cut the heat and enrich flavor. In this reipe, it adds richness and deepens the color without making it sweet. I use dark chocolate because studies show it has added health benefits.1 pound ground lean round, turkey or venison (I sometimes use ground lamb or veal from the natural meat section at HEB.)1 cp prechopped onion (short on time, use the dried onion)1 (14.5-ounce) can diced tomatoes with garlic, undrained1 cp hot water2 tbsp chili powder
I just make an exercise video for Specal Caring Friends at the Botanical Gardens. Al Bonfield is the owner and I am so impressed with what he is doing. He is meeting a need for our ageing parents. As us Baby Boomers are ageing and continue to work at staying fit, we also are made aware that our parents have many needs. So many of their needs we are unable to met. We want the best for them and that is why Special Caring Friends is an alterative to nurseing homes.I hope you check out their web site at specialcaringfriends.com
Time and time again I run into athletes and professional trainers who are horrified to even think about using soy in their diets. By believing the myth about soy being harmful, they are missing out on optimal health and benefits they could be providing to their clients. Why be afraid of a food consumed for centries by men and women in Asia? To sum up the confusion, a few studies have shown to harm mice whild hundreds of human studies show to imporve health and prevent cancer. So why are so many on the wrong side of the fence? Well, it's because of bloggers
The topic came up in one of my linkedin groups. Posted was an instructor who said sparring was bad for your students. That it dumbed them down to playing a game of tag. It sounded like to me he doesn't know how to use sparring as a training tool.Bruce Lee's art of Jeet Kune Do devoloped over his life from roof top challeges and sparring with private students at his home. That's where the real magic was made and technique plus application was tested. If you want to get any better than you need to spar.
Hi I am a new certified personal trainer/personal chef. I have just relocated to the Winston-Salem area in North Carolina. I started my love of fitness over 25 years ago and have been studying ever since. I finally decided to do something with my passion for fitness and healthy living. I will meet my clients where you are comfortable training. I tend to take a more holistic approach in what I do. If you have any questions let me know. 336-642-4112
Ok. This blog is a bit of a plug, but I just had to share.
I recently received a text from a client who has a very intense schedule as a performer/musician. To paraphrase - he is very grateful for the gift I've given him being healthy and in shape to endure a long and frantic night of performing, and all the last-minute craziness leading up to it. Talk about why I do what I do! It is not every day that we are actually thanked for our work with so much expressed appreciation.
I am in torremolinos, Spain with my new hubby and we are having a fantastic time! While taking a "break" from my normal workout routine we are still being active- taking long walks everyday exploring the city and the beaches. Also trying out the discotechs (dance clubs) - taking zumba classes at home over the past couple of weeks have really improved my salsa dancing abilities- at least I believe so!
It is exciting trying new types of food and I am excited to expand my recipe book at home and begin making some healthy spanish meals!
