The Top Digital Transformation Trends In Health Care

HealthcareBlood PressureHealth and fitness
By Alesia Hsiao

Technology has been making advances in all fields related to human life, be it sports, movies, politics and even the weirdest ones which you cannot imagine. However, one of the pets fields of the technological advances has been digital healthcare, which has been kind of pioneer in this field. The main objective of technology is to make human life easier, and so the primary objective turns out to be saving someone’s life when it is in danger. So, the technology has been making unparalleled advances in the field. However, the main challenge of the digitization still remains to spread the healthcare services to all parts of the country, even the remotest ones.

Each and every country has been making attempts to bring a steady growth in the life expectancy rate. The rate is considered as a good measure of the growth and quality of life in the country. So, the funding by the governments has critical role to play in the digitization of healthcare industry, as digitization automatically increases the reach of the industry. Various branches within the healthcare industry have undergone digitization, but the effects have been more in some branches and lesser in some other. Let us have a look at the top digital transformation trends in health care.

1. Cloud Computing

Cloud computing has been a revelation in the healthcare industry. The process of testing, printing and the delivery of the report took a long time, thus risking the life of the patient in some critical case. With the advent of cloud computing, the doctors are uploading the test results, medicines required pieces of advice to be followed etc. in the cloud account, which can be accessed by both patient and doctor. As a result of this, the patient can easily get the information he requires with a few clicks. Also, the doctors are taking care of the privacy of the patient’s information by maintaining the security of the cloud account.

Apart from cloud account, some apps have also been developed, which can give detailed information regarding the medical condition of the patient. They are able to put more information here. So, cloud computing has kind of revolutionized the healthcare sector in this sense.

2. Telemedicine

Telemedicine is another gift of digitization in the field of healthcare. The enormous amount of effort needed to find good doctors to consult and then the long wait for getting an appointment and waiting in the queues till the final turn to arrive is over. There are portals with information about doctors, validated by the portals themselves and the patient can search suitable doctor from these portals as per their need. This does not involve waiting for the turn and the rigours of travelling.

This new development has been of great help in the case of depression and other mental problem suffering patients. They can consult the doctor whenever they feel the need as per their own will.

3. Wearable’s

There are wearable devices which are recording the vitals like body temperature, pulse rate, blood pressure etc. and moreover, the there coalition with smartphones to save these data is becoming a lifesaving thing for the patients. Wearable’s have been a great success in the healthcare industry.

4. Artificial Intelligence (AI)

Tracking the various important data of the patient, analyzing it and then choosing the correct path of proceeding is one of the best ways of treating a patient and the results of treatment are found to be more successful in these cases. The complete collection of data and analysis is being made possible by use of artificial intelligence in the healthcare sector. AI tricks are being applied to collect data of all the vitals of the customer, which are then being stored in the server. This data is then analyzed to find suitable trends and which method of treatment is most suitable. Needless to say, it has been a great success.

5. Robots

Robotics has been one of the most popular fields among science students in the recent past, mostly because of the scope of development and kind of investments companies are ready to make in this field. The scope of use of robots in healthcare is considerably high, given the kind of work they can do in this field. They can do the work of supplying medication, the supply of food, assisting while operations etc. However, because of the kind of risk involved in performing all these tasks, people are not ready to let their lives depend on robots. An IDC figure suggests 50% increase in the use of robots in the healthcare industry. However, the number remains highly questionable especially considering what is at stake in case some error creeps in. So, the use of robots in healthcare industry remains minimized.

These are some of the top digital transformation trends in the healthcare, changing the ways and results of the healthcare industry for good.

Warm-up Programs for Construction Workers

Warm-UpexcerciseInjuries
By Alesia Hsiao

6-Quick-Tips-for-Builders-and-Construction-Workers_S-1.jpg

Construction industry regularly sees a significant amount of physical injury among workers. This is hardly surprising, seeing the amount and intensity of physical labor that goes with the job. However, what is surprising and of major concern is the fact that these injuries tend to be more costly, and result in more time off work when compared with work-related injuries in other industries. Time has come to assess this problem and arrive at a productive solution, fast.

Some injuries are commoner than others

construction_accident_site_law_lawyer_legal_help_insurance.jpg

Musculo-skeletal injuries are the commonest seen among construction workers. Among them, back and spine injuries are probably the most prevalent, despite a steady decline over the past few years. Closely following are hand and wrist injuries, knee injuries, and injuries to shoulder and neck.

What are we doing wrong?

Skanska-USA-Stretch-Flex.jpg

Traditional workplace safety methods such as safe lifting and proper body mechanics have been in place for years. While they have been helpful, there are still too many injuries happening across the industry. Obviously, something important has been overlooked.

The answer is startling in its simplicity; warm-up. It is a given that any professional athlete will devote a considerable time to warm-up before his event. Without this priming of the body, they are unable to perform at peak physical capabilities and will succumb to injuries more easily. Seeing that construction workers rely on their physical prowess as much as any athlete, it stands to reason that they too are sorely in need of similar precautions before putting their bodies to test each day.

This fact is now gradually catching up throughout the world, with warm-up programs, stretching sessions and flexibility pieces of training becoming popular among employees and employers alike. Progressive companies such as Atlas Foundation are now using these sessions, and are reportedly finding major benefits in them. Indeed some construction teams have seen upto 66% decrease in lost workdays due to workplace injuries.

Some tips for a program of your own

1475818365520.jpg

Get professional help - A professional physical trainer or physiotherapist must be tasked with building a suitable regime for your workers.

Customise to your needs - Each construction site and the worker will have different needs to address. Analyze the injuries most common in your team and work with your trainer to remedy those.

Commit - All your workers will not be ready to take on this at first. It is your task to explain and get everybody on-board and committed.

How Physical Exercise Prevents Dementia

Personal TrainerPhysical Therapyexcercise
By Alesia Hsiao

It has been observed from different studies that you can prevent yourself from dementia by doing physical exercise and workout on daily basis. The researchers at Goethe University Frankfurt have shown their studies on How exercise can affect your brain metabolism.

In order to find out the positive influences of physical exercise on the brain of human beings, the researchers at Goethe University had considered 60 participants between the age 65-85 and examined the influence of physical activity on their brain metabolism and memory.  These effects are thoroughly examined by the researchers in the SMART study (Sport and Metabolism in Older Persons, an MRT Study) by assessing movement-related parameters, cardiopulmonary fitness, and cognitive performance. The participants are instructed to mount an exercise bike thrice a week over the span of 12 weeks.

After the end of each examination programme, the effect of that physical workout on their performance, brain structure, memory, and brain metabolism is documented. They also examined that to what an extent the physical workout led to improvement in physical wellness.  The examination was led by the Gerontology Department of the Institute of General Medicine (headed by Professor Johannes Pantel) and the Department of Sports Medicine (drove by Professor Winfried Banzer).

These researchers will be soon starting their video production at Houston City in the United States.

Optimal.jpg

Conclusion

The above examinations showed that the physical activity increases the brain metabolism.

The convergence of this metabolite regularly increases because of the loss of nerve cells, which is normally caused by Alzheimer's infection. Physical exercise prompted stable cerebral choline concentration in the group, though choline levels raised in the training group. The physical wellness, as well as the cardiac efficiency, has been increased. In general, these observations show that physical exercise enhances physical health as well as protects cells.

LUMBERJACK STRENGTH: HOW TO BUILD MUSCLE LIKE A LUMBERJACK

Climbing WallSportsFitness
By Alesia Hsiao

Lumberjack is a person who works in a logging industry, performs harvesting and transportation of trees into the forests. Normally, lumberjacks are divided into different types of workers, like fellers, buckers, tree climbers. These lumberjacks need to be very strong in order to perform their daily workout.

The tree climber is required to climb up the tree to the top cutting the limbs so he needs more strength.  Fellers and buckers used to do all the job of chopping down the trees to make them the backbone of putting the tree to the ground. So in order to become a good worker and get the promotion, lumberjack training is very important.

There are many lumber yards located in Houston, that are playing their role in selecting the best softwoods, hardwoods, exotic woods and custom millwork.

Logger Sports:

choker-race-4151.jpg

Logger sports started from the Lumber-camps, where there was a competition between the best axe cutters for the title of “Best logger”. Participating in such events for those people is as hard as participating in some Olympics.

5 Lumberjack strength exercises:

Axe Cutting

In this event, the upper body strength of a  wood chopper can be seen. The wood chopper repetitively slings the axe that will move the entire upper body.

Sawing

A person holding a saw and moving back and forth on the tree

Axe throwing

maxresdefault.jpg

This requires a large amount of strength to hit the target with some heavy object from a large distance.

Log Throwing

It requires lifting a very heavy log and gaining some constant speed and throwing the log with a full body push

Tree Climbing

This is, in fact, the hardest lumberjack workout. It’s similar to climbing a cliff.

No guts no glory: Harvesting the microbiome of athletes

AthletesWorkoutCardio Workouts
By Alesia Hsiao

It is an oft-quoted science fact that there are more bacterial cells in our body than human cells. But what does that really imply? Does our body microbiota actually decide who we are?

In a ground-breaking research, scientists of Harvard Medical School have found evidence that this may well be the case, at least where athletes are concerned. In a presentation at the 254th National Meeting & Exposition of the American Chemical Society (ACS), Jonathan Scheiman, Ph.D., expounded on how they have identified specific bacteria in the gut microbiota of professional athletes, which may have a role in aiding athletic performance.

Stomach bugs that aid in running?

microbiota.jpg

As Scheiman explains, microbiota in our gut aids us in multiple functions. “There is literally nothing bacteria cannot do”, he smiles, pointing out that recently researchers have even discovered a species that can produce pure gold out of toxic metals. Though as of now you would be well-advised to stick to tried and tested methods when buying gold, when it comes to enhancing your athletic prowess, bacteria may truly have the answer.

The gut bacteria, Scheiman says, directly affects energy metabolism, including the rate of carbohydrate, fiber and protein breakdown. They also influence inflammation and brain function. All this potentially implies effects on recovery, endurance, and even mental balance, all of which are very important for athletes.

In an effort to identify the specific bacteria that help in these, the researchers collected daily stool samples from 20 runners training for Boston marathon, one week before and after the race. This allowed them to study the pattern of microbiota changes through stress and recovery. The analysis came up with a sudden spike of one bacteria species in post-race samples, which has been isolated and identified as one breaking down lactic acid, thus potentially helping in recovery and relieving muscle soreness.

They also collected samples from ultramarathoners and rowers, whose microbiota populations showed significant differences to each other, which may imply different sports have their own specific microbes.

Wake up the super-athlete in you!

mj-618_348_building-the-new-super-athlete.jpg

This finding could spawn a new line of probiotics, Scheiman predicts. Engineered on the models of professional athletes’ microbiota populations, they may help even the amateur fitness enthusiasts to perform better, whether in recovering after a strenuous run or by managing their energy metabolism more efficiently.

What does fiber do? Soluble versus insoluble fiber

fiberFat LossFood
By Alesia Hsiao

shutterstock_391498048.jpg

Fiber is an important component in a balanced diet that has not received its due credits for the multitude of health benefits it offers to improve quality of life. It helps prevent obesity by aiding in weight loss, reduces the risk of colon cancer and worsening of diabetes.

Most Americans need to double their current fiber intake to meet the recommended daily 25-35 grams.

Sources of fiber

Dietary fiber is incorporated in two forms as soluble fiber and insoluble fiber. Grains, nuts and seeds, beans, lentils and certain fruits like apples are rich in soluble fiber.

Whole wheat bread and pasta, brown rice and skins of fruits are rich sources of insoluble fibers.

Benefits of consuming a fiber-rich diet

Soluble fiber retains water to become pulpy. The pulp could bind to cholesterol micelles trapping them and getting rid of cholesterol. In addition, fiber delays breakdown of complex sugars to simple sugars thus preventing sugar spikes following meals: improving cardiovascular health and diabetes.

The voluminous pulp achieves early satiety preventing overeating to help reach weight loss goals faster than a Mercedes and create bulky stools:  easing bowel motions, preventing diarrhea and constipation.

Insoluble fiber does not dissolve in water hence retains its coarse texture which primarily adds volume to feel fuller and adds bulk to stools. Bulk in stools helps regular bowel evacuation preventing the development of hemorrhoid and also helps in managing weight.

Helpful practical tips-

Add more whole wheat products, brown rice, and legumes to meals. Eat organic fruits and vegetables with their skins and seeds. Incorporate fruits in desserts and replace some animal proteins with plant proteins.
