7 Health Benefits Of Having A Beard

HealthHealth Tips
By Alesia Hsiao

Most of us can agree that beards are pretty attractive. However, some people don’t seem to agree with this. They believe that beards are “nasty”, “gross” etc etc. Well, not only is male facial hair rather attractive, it also has its benefits, health benefits, that is. Let's take a look, shall we?

1.Sun Protection

It has been scientifically proven that beards can block up to 95% of the sun’s harmful UV rays. Men that are exposed to too much sun end up with leathery skin and wrinkles. So, beards prevent your skin from burning and prevent potential skin cancer (tip: the thicker the beard, the more protection you’ll get)

2.Youth Forever

Due to a lot of skin protection from the sun, your skin is likely to stay safe and unharmed. Wrinkles are prevented thanks to your beard. Not only this, but allergens are kept out of your system, thus preventing any illness. Your beard will help keep your skin looking nice and young. It’s a paradox in a way as beards make you look maturer and still preserve your youth.

3.Reduction of Acne

Shaving gives you acne. Shaving your face causes bacteria, and this bacteria causes acne. Therefore, your beard prevents all this. No shaving, no acne, super smooth skin (under all that hair of course).

image

4. Reduction of Allergens

Beards act as a filter between you, toxins and bacteria. It’s especially useful to men with asthma or weak lungs.

image

5. Reduces Infections

Beards naturally protect the pores on your skin. Bacterial infections, ingrowns and folliculitis are highly unlikely with a beard. Lack of shaving also plays a huge role in this.

6. Naturally Moist Skin

The last thing on your mind about your beard should be dry skin. Shaving opens up pores, causing them to dry out as they battle the elements over time. Your beard will protect your skin from drying weather and winds. Trimming your beard might lessen the chances of protection from the elements. Plus sebaceous glands help keep your skin better moisturized when you have a beard.

5 Things Your Mouth Reveals About Your Health

Health
By Alesia Hsiao

Many would think that a dentist simply cleans a patient's teeth and does basic dental treatment, but the truth is, routine dental checkups can tell you a lot about the overall condition of your health, and not just the hygiene level of your chompers.

Here are 5 things your dentists can tell about your health simply by peering into your mouth.

Warning sign 1: Bleeding gums

For some, bleeding gums may be an everyday occurrence, but dental professionals assure that this is not the case. You may be afflicted with periodontal disease, and may need to hurry to a dental or teeth whitening expert in order to receive a thorough treatment. Failure to do so may cause the gum disease to fester, where harmful germs and bacteria from your gums may enter the bloodstream.

This may not sound dangerous, but it could potentially be fatal as the bacteria inflames the arteries and causes your heart to be affected. Someone who already have a pre-existing heart condition may even meet his end this way, so do not shrug off bleeding gums.

Warning sign 2: Cracking or loose teeth

If you woke up to discover crumbling, cracked or crooked teeth, then chances are that you're suffering from poor mental health. When this happens, it most likely means that you have been grinding your teeth regularly at night, and this can only happen due to stress.

Not only will you be afflicted with regular headaches or even migraines, you may suffer from permanent jaw joint damage.

The trick is to relax before your sleep and clear your mind of all worries. If this fails, you may approach your dentist for a bite guard to prevent you from clamping down and grinding your teeth.

Warning sign 3: Mouth sores

The next time you spot sores forming near your mouth, do not dismiss them too quickly. Sores that look like craters appearing inside or around your mouth could merely be ulcers, but do beware of fluid-filled, puffy sores. It is likely that you have contracted the herpes simplex virus, and will need to hurry to a physician for an immediate cure.

Warning sign 4: Dry Mouth

If you experience dry mouth, chances are that it's caused by some form of medication, and may mean that you're ingesting too much antihistamines, antidepressants, and anti-anxiety meds. You may need to cut down on your prescription if possible, or find other ways to counter the dryness in your mouth. Lack of moisture may invite problems such as festering cavities, gingivitis and other oral infections which may lead to bigger health risks. For a temporary solution, you could chew gum containing xylitol to simulate the production of saliva.

Warning sign 5: Bad breath

Halitosis means more than just a social no-no. In fact, the buildup of bacteria can be harmful not only to your social life, but to your health as well. If brushing, flossing and rinsing with mouthwash failed to get rid of the condition, then you may need to see a physician immediately. Continued halitosis may be a sign of:

  • respiratory disease

  • diabetes

  • gastric reflux

  • kidney failure

Top 5 Exercises You Can Do Right Off Your Sofa

ExercisesFitness
By Alesia Hsiao

According to statistics, obesity is fast becoming an epidemic that's spreading across the world as we speak. For example, did you know that 2.8 million (and counting!) people are dying each year as a result of being overweight or obese? One of the best ways to beat obesity is through proper diet and the right fitness regime. However, exercising may be a daunting task for some especially if one is used to lounging about at home. Here are some exercises you can do easily right off your sofa, even if you're a couch potato!

1. Tricep Dips

It doesn't matter if you prefer your sofa seat to the bench press, you can easily do this exercise and tone up your arms! Here's what you do: scoot to the end of the couch and rest your hands lightly at the edge. Move your body outwards so that your pelvic area and hips hover. While gripping the edge of the seat, bend your elbows and lower your torso to the floor. Do 3 consecutive sets of 18 and you'll have nicely toned arms in no time!

2. The Commercial Break Stretch

Do this quickly during commercial breaks. First, lie with your back against the sofa seat. Bring one knee up and press it as close as you can against your chest. Keep the position for 10 seconds, then release. Do the same for the other leg, and repeat 3 sets.

3. The Alphabet Footsie

Again, sit on the edge of the couch. Start with both feet flat on the floor. Slowly lift up one leg with the toes pointing the ceiling. Stretch and imagine that you're drawing the alphabets with your toes. You'll feel your calf muscles stretch and tighten. Hold for half a minute, then repeat in the same manner with your other leg. Do 3 sets per leg to feel the effect.

4. The Leg Lift

Here's something you can do even when tuned in to your favorite soap opera! Lie back on the sofa, arms on your sides. Tighten your butt and lift your hips off the sofa so that your body is angled in a straight line. Raise one leg in the air as high as you can, then bring it down slowly towards your abdomen. Repeat 3 sets of 10 per leg and slowly but surely, a much toned midriff can be yours.

5. The Sofa Scissors

Again, scoot to the edge of the couch. Ensure you keep a good and sturdy posture before starting. Stretch and kick out your legs, and while maintaining a straight back, cross your legs the way a pair of scissors would. Switch this 30-50 times to achieve maximum impact!

Health Risks with Math Anxiety

By Alesia Hsiao

Yes, you read the title right - there are health risks involved with Math anxiety for example you could go to an addicition recovery center such as koolrecovery where people treat anxiety and other mental addictions. If parents already outgrew the habit of delving away from Math, our children don’t have to suffer the same. Parents can simply start helping their children grow up without the stigma of this subject by refraining themselves from telling their children that they really never loved Math and that they are never good with Math. We can be honest with a whole lot of things with our children - except that.

The risks involved with the fear of Math predicts poorer health outcomes, less accurate perception of health risks, and a compromised ability to make medical decisions. We do not want our children to grow up like this.

As responsible parents, apart from encouraging them to continue to learn and that they can manage to understand Mathematics, there are a lot of resources you can exhaust to help your children grow up with the love for Math. Math assignments are available through offline tutorial services or also online.

There’s nothing else we want to see from our children but their smiles - and this can happen even when we talk about… Math.
