Dealing with diabetes can be a scary and sometimes frustrating experience. Making lifestyle and diet changes, counting carbohydrates and monitoring blood sugar can seem overwhelming at first. Over time, it no longer feels like a chore, but a way of life. A continuous glucose monitoring system is a very important long-term tool for patients who want to actively monitor and manage their diabetes.
A continuous glucose monitor (CGM) is a two-part device consisting of a discreet flexible sensor that you place under your skin. The second part of the device is a receiver that updates you on your blood sugar levels. CGM systems can also have an alarm to alert you way before you start experiencing fluctuations in your glucose levels.
CGM systems provide invaluable support for patients living with diabetes. Here are 5 reasons why you need a continuous glucose monitoring system.
1. Confidence And Security
A CGM system provides constant readings of your blood sugar. These readings will ultimately help you to understand your diabetes better and take better control of your life. With a CGM device, all the information about your sugar levels is displayed on a screen, therefore; you do not need to carry all your diabetes gear everywhere you go. This means that you can walk, go to the gym, and perform other activities you enjoy with confidence while monitoring your glucose levels.
2. CGM’s Provide More Comfort
Compared to the traditional way of pricking your fingers every time you want to check your glucose levels, CGM systems are more comfortable and for the most part, pain-free. CGM’s do not leave bruises or ‘holes’ on your skin. The only pain you will feel is the one-second sensation when a new sensor is being set up.
3. Tighter Blood Sugar Control
If you use your CGM system to the fullest, you will notice that your sugar levels will improve tremendously. Set your high and low alarms at specific levels and respond to them accordingly. By responding to your alarms immediately, you will not only catch low and high blood sugars sooner, but also you will be able to take your insulin dose before your blood sugar goes out of the healthy range. This will result in better scores for A1C and you will also be able to prevent diabetes complications that are associated with sugar levels.
4. Newborn Safety For Women With Gestational Diabetes
Gestational diabetes is a condition that only happens during pregnancy. The high blood sugar levels in the pregnant woman can affect the growing baby’s sugar levels as well. If not properly managed, the fetus can develop serious health problems. A CGM system can effectively provide continuous information to the mother about any alterations in her blood glucose levels which will help prevent fetal complications.
5. Discreet And Flexible
The CGM system is not very big thus; you can wear it under your clothes discreetly and unobtrusively. Some CGM systems have the option of using your smartphone and you can receive and display your glucose information privately without drawing the attention of everyone at work or school.
Conclusion
Well, there you have it; 5 reasons why you need a continuous glucose monitoring system. You will find the best continuous glucose monitoring systems at ccsmed.com to enable you to live a healthy life, even with diabetes.
Diabetic nerve pain happens when your body fails to use the insulin hormone properly. Neuropathy mostly affects the nerves on your hands, limbs, and feet. It causes excess pain, heart problems, digestive issues, and even death. As such, urgent proper care and treatment are needed. There are some natural remedies you can use.
Here are 5 natural remedies for diabetic nerve pain:
1. Protect Your Feet And Skin
A simple and natural remedy to use is to wash your feet and skin properly on a daily basis more so on the skin folds where moisture and bacteria have the potential to build up and result in an infection.
Ensure that you put on clean clothing and socks and keep the delicate skin away from high temperatures such as the sun and extremely warm showers. Get also into the habit of cutting your toenails and filing corns.
2. Exercise Daily
Daily exercise is one of the best natural remedies for diabetic nerve pain. It helps you keep your high blood pressure and blood sugar under control, increase your strength, and maintain a healthy weight.
You can have a 30 to 60 minutes daily exercise routine and engage in low-impact exercises such as swimming, cycling, and walking. Such exercise helps your body to properly respond to insulin and brings you to a point where you need less medication.
3. Keep Off From Toxins
If you are suffering from diabetic nerve pain, you are more susceptible to kidney problems such as kidney disease. This is why it is important to avoid doing anything that could accumulate toxins in your blood and negatively affect your kidney.
Avoid beauty products, household detergents, unnecessary antibiotics, taking alcohol, recreational drugs, and exposing yourself to pesticide chemicals that have been sprayed on non-organic crops.
Keep off from smoking. A diabetic person needs not to consume tobacco at all as this will contribute to more nerve damage and result in more serious health complications such as a stroke or a heart attack.
4. Manage Your Stress Levels
Stress increases inflammation and makes your body more vulnerable to other forms of health complications. To properly manage your stress levels, get in the habit of meditating, exercising, engaging in activities that you love such as practicing your hobbies, enjoying nature, spending more time with loved ones and friends, and prayer.
Another natural remedy you can employ for diabetic nerve pain is acupuncture. It has been proven to lower stress and pain and safely ease the symptoms of nerve damage.
5. Maintain A Healthy Diet
The diet you choose directly impacts your blood sugar levels. Maintaining a proper diet is a simple natural remedy for diabetic nerve pain. For a proper diet, avoid consuming sugary drinks and meals with added sugars and refined carbs. Focus on consuming unprocessed whole foods.
Your diet should include herbal tea, drinking water, plenty of lean protein foods such as grass-fed beef, healthy fats such as coconut oil and avocado, whole fruits and vegetables rich in antioxidants, vitamins, and fiber, and stevia which is a natural calorie-free sweetener to use instead of table sugar.

Curcumin is a staple supplement that is an extract of the turmeric spice. It dates its origin from India, and scientists say that is in charge of giving the turmeric its original yellow color.
Many people confuse between turmeric and Curcumin. However, you should note that the latter is a turmeric extract, and forms about two percent of the various constituents within the spice. Therefore, it means that you will have to consume a lot of turmerics to get the full benefits of the Curcumin.
Note that doctors give the supplement as a herb; thus, it is essential to consult your practitioner before you consume it.
On that note, why should everyone have the Curcumin on his or her shelf? Why should you ingest it regularly?
Scientists say that the supplement has numerous benefits, which we are going to discuss today.
1. Curcumin has anti-inflammatory abilities
It is okay to take anti-inflammatory drugs; however, these drugs have multiple side effects that Curcumin does not give.
During an injury, the inflammatory agents arise to prevent entry of pathogens to the body. Nonetheless, the situation could worsen if the inflammation becomes chronic. Medical practitioners note that the extract could contain anti-inflammatory agents in your body.
Besides that, they also conclude that Curcumin is suitable for individuals with arthritis since it also prevents chronic inflammation in muscles.
2. It contains antioxidant properties
Curcumin’s chemical structure is ideal for fighting free radicals within your body that promote aging and inflammation.
Through oxidation, the free radicals can react with various food components such as proteins and fatty acids. Its structure helps to fight the free radicals from spreading and helps in activating the oxidants within the body that could challenge the free radicals as well.
Note that both inflammation and oxidations are significant contributors to aging.
3. Enhancing brain functions
The human brain has a growth hormone known as a brain-derived neurotrophic factor that helps in promoting neuron formation in your mind.
On the other hand, less production of this hormone may lead to depression and Alzheimer’s disease. By consuming the extract, it will increase production of the hormone as well, which will also aid in reducing aging and depression.
Many people who take in Curcumin may become smarter and have heightened memory.
4. Helps to counter heart diseases
Most people in the world die because of heart disease. However, where does this problem come from, mainly?
Well, the endothelium, which is the lining of your artery, contracts and increases blood pressure to the affected individual. Curcumin intake will reduce these effects by improving how the endothelium functions.
Scientists also say that intake of the drug will reduce the risk of heart disease by 65 percent.
5. Combating cancer
You may have to take in the supplement to avoid the spread of cancer in your body. Cancer is when a region of your body experiences uncontrolled cell growth.
In several laboratory tests, scientists found out that curcumin can counter the growth of the cancer cells, the spread of the disease, and prevent the development of blood vessels within tumors.
Note that scientists are still in the process of studying how the extract can help cancer patients.
Final remarks
You can take curcumin in large doses without having side effects. Nevertheless, that should not be an excuse of taking the drug carelessly.
It may be crucial in fighting diabetes and blood pressure; on the other hand, it can lower sugar and blood pressure. Therefore, when purchasing curcumin turmeric extract for sale, always buy from an authorized dealer.
Have you ever seen a beautiful girl, standing in front of you in the coffee shop? That angelic face, then she suddenly smiles and lo and behold you see her yellowish teeth and crooked smile? Let’s admit it, it’s a turn-off. Having pearly whites that show when you smile not only looks good but also boosts your confidence.
Choosing the dentist that best fits you can be quite challenging. There is always that fear of opening your (cavity filled) mouth and allowing that person to work his/her magic wand inside. It does not only impact your dental well-being, but your family’s as well. So, no pressure, right?
There are plenty of reasons why you might want to choose a new dentist. Financially, if you feel your current dentist is giving your wallet a dent or maybe because he/she is a little hard on your tooth. Well, whatever reasons you have, here are five tips to help you look for a new dentist.
1. How much does a pearly white cost?
One of the first considerations in choosing a new dentist to take over the care of your dental hygiene is the cost. Quality care and service do not always equate with expensive price tags. Ask around and canvass first before settling down on his/her pricey dental chair. If you have insurance, the better as it can cover your dental expenses or at least chunk off a significant discount on your tab.
2. What reputation does he/she have?
Ask around and check for customer or patient feedback regarding your target dentist. The best people to know how he/she treats the patients are those who actually go to him/her. Does he use anesthesia? Does she have gentle hands? Don’t be afraid to ask around because it’s your teeth that are on the line here.
3. Is he/she old school?
With the height of technology these days, it is important that your dentist is up-to-date with his or her techniques. It doesn’t have to be the latest or most expensive tools but at least advanced enough to catch dental issues and early on and helps you achieve those sparkling whites. If you see that their tools and equipment have been there for ages, then maybe you should consider another clinic.
4. What do they offer?
What do you have? What services do you offer? Always ensure that the dentist you are considering has a wide range of expertise and offers most dental procedures. Otherwise, you will have to go to different dentists for different procedures every time.
It is a huge plus if the dentist you are considering has a website. There you can research about the clinic without actually leaving the comforts of your home.
5. Where is the clinic located and what are the clinic hours?
Location is essential especially if you are a working professional with long work hours. You tend to squeeze in the dental checkup in between long lunch breaks and traffic. Book an appointment with a Smileworks dentist at your most convenient location and schedule, so your pearly whites are always ready for that close-up.
You may have heard about it on your trip to the spa or a dermatologist, but you do not know really know what it means? Microdermabrasion is a cosmetic procedure. it can be likened to dermabrasion except that microdermabrasion is less aggressive.
While dermabrasion basically sands your skin away through surgical skin planing, microdermabrasion uses a mechanical medium to exfoliate the skin to get rid of the dead skin cells. This is done by using tiny crystals that will be sprayed on the skin to exfoliate it. Then the impurities and debris in the skin will be taken out by a suction.
The History of Microdermabrasion
Microdermabrasion started over thirty years ago in Italy, where the first microdermabrasion unit was built in 1985. But history shows that the concept has existed as early as 1500 BC. During this time, the Egyptians would use a certain type of sandpaper in order to remove the upper layers of the sin and smoothen the existing scars.
Then came the invention of machines which can replace the humans who in the past would just use sandpaper to smoothen the skin. This time, wire brushes were used in a process called dermabrasion. But while it is certainly a far cry from the ancient practices, there were still some who were apprehensive with the process of dermabrasion, mainly due to the side effects.
Dermabrasion came about as a way to remove acne scars and deep marks left in the face that may be due to diseases or even trauma. But it can be painful, and you will need anesthesia to get through the treatment. Other than that, it can cause discoloration on the skin. WebMD even says that this process is safer for people with fairer skin as it can cause scarring and discoloration for darker-skinned people.
It's a good thing that microdermabrasion machines came about to answer the risks brought by its predecessor. These side effects that plagued those who underwent dermabrasion will be glad to know that as for microdermabrasion, they are relatively milder.
Microdermabrasion Side Effects
In microdermabrasion, you can experience redness and irritation. You should expect this as your skin has been exfoliated. If you ever used a facial scrub and you've seen your skin getting red, it would probably look the same after a microdermabrasion session. The great news about this is that it will go away after a few hours. Aside from that, you will also see some flaking skin and possible bruising.
What's great about microdermabrasion is that it suits all skin types. As stated above, dermabrasion is more for those with fair skin, but anyone can undergo microdermabrasion as it is much gentler. It also has a less downtime so you can be up and about in a few days compared to the weeks you need to wait in dermabrasion.
Microdermabrasion Benefits
Now you already know that microdermabrasion is safer and poses fewer risks, but now it's time for you to know the benefits that your skin can get when you avail this treatment. Here are some of the benefits you can enjoy:
1. Removes dull skin - if you find that your skin lacks that glow, then this treatment is perfect. The machine does not just exfoliate your skin but at the same time, it removes the dead skin cells which cause your dull skin. You can enjoy glowing skin after you've recovered.
2. Reduces fine lines - with microdermabrasion, your skin produces more collagen and elastin. Collagen is something that the skin produces naturally but as we age, the production decreases. With this treatment, there will be a boost in the production of collagen and elastin. These are responsible to make your skin more supple. It also promotes skin repair.
3. Your skin products will become more effective - because there is no more dead skin in your skin and there is better circulation, the skin will be more receptive to the products that you use on your skin by at least 50%. You 'll be able to see better results, which is great if you are spending a lot of money on products and other treatments.
4. Reduces the appearance of scars - acne is something that many people go through. It may start during puberty and while many outgrow the condition, there are still some acne scars that stay with you even after many years. WIth microdermabrasion, you can reduce the superficial scars you have on your face.
5. It is safe and painless - it was already stated above just how safe this treatment is, but it still needs to be reiterated. If you have undergone dermabrasion, you might be hesitating to get this treatment because the former one can be painful, but again with a microdermabrasion treatment, you will not feel pain. It can be uncomfortable but you won't get hurt.
Do take note that it does not take just one session to see the effects of this treatment. There should also be enough time between treatments, like a week or two.
Microdermabrasion Aftercare
After you have had the treatment, you need to make sure that you take care of your skin so that it will recover nicely. There are those who say that you should consider that you have a sunburn when you get this treatment. So you should stay away from the sun and also not apply any makeup so that your skin will not get irritated.
For a few days after the treatment, make sure that you have adequate protection. Put on sunblock and moisturizer on your skin so that there will be no side effects.
In getting a microdermabrasion, you can actually do it at home, but if it is your first time, it would be a better idea to get it from a professional, whether a dermatologist or an aesthetician. Be sure to go to a clinic that has a good reputation and would give you the best value for the money that you will spend.

Many obese people across the world are seeking ways to lose weight and lead normal lives. Obesity is a life-threatening condition that if left untreated or unchecked can have far-reaching consequences. Lots of procedures such as a change of diet, exercise regimes, medications, and surgery have been developed to help people lose weight. Of all the options available surgery is seen as the last resort.
Weight loss surgery otherwise known as bariatric surgery has continued to gain momentum in recent years. According to the New England Journal of Medicine, an estimated 200,000 Bariatric surgeries are carried out each year.
Below are a few essential things you need to know about weight loss surgery.
1. Involves Intensive Medical Checks and Screening
Any time surgery is used in an attempt to improve someone's health or life, nothing should ever be taken for granted. Weight loss surgery is complex and once you decide to go under the knife, any other hurdle must be cleared.
According to Dr. Shieh, a surgeon based in Florida USA, before a go-ahead is given for the weight loss surgery to be performed intensive screening is done to prep the patients, and ensure they are medically, psychologically and physically prepared. You will be subjected to rigorous procedures, counseling sessions, and consultations by different specialists to ascertain everything is in order.
You can visit BodyFree for expert and specialized bariatric consultations, treatment and surgery.
2. It's Not Compulsory To Undergo Weight Loss Surgery
When it comes to determining weight loss interventions, doctors will always start by checking the BMI index. It allows the doctors to know if you are underweight, overweight or normal weight. Ordinarily, those with higher BMI index (35-40) will likely be candidates for Bariatric surgery.
According to Raul Rosenthal, President of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery, physicians' intent is always not to operate if they can find another solution for the patients. When lifestyle changes such as exercises and diet completely fail, Bariatric surgery becomes the last option.
Even with intensive screening, doctors may still decline your Bariatric surgery request if your health is at risk.
3. The Surgery Can Have Serious Risks
Weight loss surgery, just like all other types of surgeries has its potential risks. Gastric banding and gastric bypass are two main types of Bariatric surgery. According to a Bariatric surgery source, blood clots, abdominal hernia, deep vein thrombosis, gastrointestinal leaks, abscess, and bowel obstructions are some of the major risks.
Good news is that Bariatric surgery has a mortality rate of 0.1%. Only less than 7% of the reported cases morph into complications, which are usually not life-threatening.
4. Post-Surgery Life Is Not Easy
After a Bariatric surgery, expect to eat very fewer meals. Generally, the surgery will reduce your stomach size thus lowering the amount of food you ingest. According to Dr. Shieh, patients after surgery will tend to consume fewer calories leaving them feeling full.
What's more, certain patients might experience malabsorption, a condition brought about by eating greasy foods. Gut pains, diarrhea, and nausea are some of the effects you will feel after surgery. What this means is that you need to mind what you eat. Strictly follow your doctor's diet guidance.
In addition, exercising is also very paramount. Engage in regular workouts to keep fit and active. Follow your doctor's guidance on how to carry out your workouts.
The cold season is almost here and during this time of the year, it is vital that you keep your pets healthy and warm. When the weather gets too cold, your pets won’t be able to keep themselves warm all by themselves. They are going to need all the help that they can get in order for them to stay warm and healthy. Otherwise, extreme and abrupt changes of the weather can leave your pets anxious and in shock. So before the temperature drops, do the right and appropriate measures to keep your pets away from harm.
You can actually make your pets be ready for the upcoming winter. For instance, you can stimulate fur growth to your dog in order to gradually acclimate to the outdoor chills. This will stimulate their fur to be more protective and grow thicker. In order to make your pets get used to the cold weather, try to bring them outdoors in two to a three-hour period so once the weather drops, your pet is already used to the coldness. Do it gradually and make them go back to your home after a few short trips so they can have a bathroom break as well.
When it is finally winter, you have to make sure that you already have everything you need with you. This should include proper winter clothes for your pet. Find a coat or sweater that will offer utmost protection to your pet. Look for the best dog winter clothes that are comfortable for your dog and will generate natural heat for their bodies. Find something that will not make your pet uncomfortable to move around or frustrated to go to the bathroom. So when you are shopping for winter clothes for your pet, you need to make sure to find the best one out there.
Investing in products that will also keep your pet free from dryness and irritation would help. Just like us during winter, our pets are also prone to the drying effects of the weather so before the temperature drops, visit your veterinarian and ask for the best pet products that will counteract these effects on your pets. These effects could potentially lead to a lot of fly-away furs which is something we all definitely want to avoid. So in order to avoid that, get a product in advance that will retain your dog’s natural moisture.
If there are instances where you can’t keep your pet inside your home, you will need to make sure that you built it a warm accommodation outside your house. For example, build or improve the dog house that you currently have and put some warm and dry blanket, straw bedding, and other items that will greatly help your dog. Making sure that they stay warm and healthy even though they are not inside your home is very important. Give them something to snuggle so they can sleep comfortably. If you can, install pet heating elements near them and make sure to place it where it is safe.
