Step It Up
The ABC’s of good habits with food and drink. This came from Dr Samadi who was interview on TV a few months back. Just like everyone else, I have some bad habits to brake especially since I moved up a category in mountain bike racing. Cat 1 this year! I hope to make it to the podium. So I need to pay more attention to what I put in my body. Hear are a few ABC’s that I will follow and you can too. Its more about common sense than anything else.

Just read a very interesting article titled, "Navigating Restaurant Menus" in the IDEA Fitness Journal.  It had some shocking statistics about eating out.  One thing that I found intersting was that just one meal at a restaurant adds an average of 134 calories to your daily energy intake.  So, if you eat out once a week, you could gain 2 pounds per year.  The article also stated that most Americans eat out an average of 5.8 times per week!  With that in mind, it would help to have some strategies to eat healthy while dining out.

Functional Fitness- For Stronger Living
Several things to address. First off, all quiet on the western front? Yes, I live in the western suburbs of Chicago and we are in a time of battle because life is short and love abounds. Secondly, Day 5 number two? Yes, since the original 10-day challenge start, I have done a restart in order to accompany a few clients in our 3D December challenge. Basically, four 7-day challenges. For challenge number one, I decided to write down everything I eat and drink and at what time. Many lessons have been learned already.

Sarah's Fitness Journey
So like most of you the holidays come with a mixture of emotions for me. I look forward to spending time with my family, I LOVE the food, and it's always nice to spend some time reflecting on how fortunate you are. However, as far as diet and exercise regimens go this time of year seems to be a long drawn out nightmare. Every time I get through a holiday and just start to get back on track with my eating, here comes another one to throw me off again. I've long since given up the fight to resist all the awesome food that my family works so hard to bring to the table.

Small changes eventually lead to a healthy lifestyle
That is a question that I never gave much thought until my 17 year old son was diagnosed with Langerhans Cell Histiocytosis, a rare blood disease, that was unheard of 50 years ago.  Why?  Well, I started investigating and what I found out was quite astonishing.  First of all, toxins exist all around us.  After WWII, they didn't really know what to do with all the chemical warfare, so it ended up in agriculture and industry which means the air we breathe is toxic.

Thanksgiving!  Memories of fires in the chimney, smells of turkey wafting from the oven and my mom's voice coming from the kitchen, quickly come to mind.  I remember playing games with my family, chatting and laughing around the table as we all enjoyed mom and grandma's cooking and begging my dad to change the channel from all the boring football games (eventually he would fall asleep and we'd get to watch something else).  I don't ever remember worrying about how many calories I was consuming or whether or not the turkey was free-range org
