When I first began weight lifting, my primary focus was bodybuilding. My diet, lifestyle, and workouts revolved purely around aesthetics. As I got bigger and stronger my focus shifted to "powerbuilding". I eliminated isolation exercises and focused primarily on strength. I got much stronger, but hurt way more. I injured my low back deadlifting, and had to re-evaluate exactly what I was and was not doing, and what was appropriate for me at that point in time.

This led me to learn about the Functional Movement Screen (FMS), Pavel, the RKC, and Kettlebells. I attended these certifications and learned how to move better. I read books such as Relax into stretch, Super Joints, and Movement by Gray Cook and applied their principles. I was no longer in pain, and now had a more holistic approach to training. It wasn't just about chasing one variable (strength, cardio, hypertrophy) but it was about becoming a better athlete. And ultimately feeling better. Because, what is the point of training if you feel like dog shit? Now, I had a clear objective.

I was introduced to Brazilian Jiu Jitsu (BJJ) around 2007. I was doing some swings in my backyard and was approached by my landscaper, who said in half broken english "kettlebells, good, good." He asked me if I ever trained Jiu Jitsu. I told him no, and he invited me to train the next day. I agreed and turns out this gentleman was a Gracie Black belt. I trained with him 6AM every morning for months. I was humbled significantly, being 230 lbs at the time getting choked out by someone 100lbs less was a huge lesson in humility.

Brazilian Jiu Jitsu was a beautiful outlet for me. It has been a way to express myself artistically. I continue to train BJJ today and have attained my Purple Belt.

Ultimately at this stage, I am focused on becoming a better person, a better trainer, and someone who can help others more effectively. I am constantly trying to improve every way I can, and I look forward to what the future brings.

AJ Oliva is a blessing. As a trainer/teacher, he is tremendously gifted and his enthusiasm and passion is boundless. As a human being, he is someone that you feel good to be around because it is easy to feed off his positive energy. The more you are around the guy, the better you feel as a person. His workouts are off the charts. He is changing my life because every time I walk out of the gym pouring sweat I feel younger, stronger and healthier. He is making me better, and I have the utmost respect for him.

First and foremost, AJ is one of the most selfless people I have ever encountered. He is a great teacher, but an even better human being. Because of AJ's training, I personally have been transformed into an athlete that I've always wanted to be. AJ has all the intangibles of a phenomenal trainer. To have someone follow your instructions is one thing, getting someone to fall in love with what you are preaching is another. AJ's abilities of instruction are special. He will personally customize every training session specifically for you to meet your goals. AJ is going to do everything in his power to make sure your development grows. I personally have a brutal work schedule, making it only possible to see AJ twice to three times a week tops. He will work around your schedule and optimize the time you have together. What separates AJ from other trainers is his dedication to your development. I have never had the same training session twice, and I have never left a session without AJ giving me an assignment to work on for our next meeting. I have obsessed over these at home assignments, and when I come back for our next meeting I can personally see my own development. If I were to recommend you to another trainer I would be selling you short. AJ is an unbelievable trainer, but an even better human being. With him you will be gaining strength, endurance, knowledge, and ultimately a great friend throughout your entire experience. I look forward to training with AJ for years to come.

I must say at first I was skeptical about having personal trainer but I met Aj at a local gym and was immediately taken back by his vast knowledge of nutrition and exercise so I decided to give him a shot, little did I know it would change my life and lifestyle as drasticly as it has, I went from being a meat head with big muscles who couldn't get out of bed In the morning without being in some sort of pain and need a giant cup of coffee or a sugar filled energy drink to get my day started. Because of AJ I'm now lean shredded with no zero loss of muscle, and no longer need to spend countless $$ on red bull and coffee . When I wake up in the morning I feel ready to take on the world , and I owe it all to Aj taking me to the next level and steering me away from diet and exercise fads and magic pills . He taught about proper nutrion exercise and lifestyle choices that are priceless . His knowledge is second to none ? If your looking to take your mind body and lifestyle to the next level I urge to make appt with him ASAP .

I have had many trainers but no one is like AJ! Not only is he a great trainer but he is also a great guy! I have been training with AJ for almost two years and I see my self as a stronger and more knowledgeable person. Not only are we training at the sessions, but he is always giving great nutrition advice. It is like a work out and a nutrition session all in one. This really helps me keep on track. Aj is always changing things up, so the work outs are rarely repetitive. This is what Aj loves to do and you can really feel and see that while working out. The work outs are great and he is definitely the best trainer in town!!
