Growing up as a kid in a small suburban town in North Jersey, I spent my free time outside, playing ball, exploring the woods and just using my body. I now live in a small South Jersey town and have 3 boys of my one. When they were little and started to get involved in sports, the first thing that caught my eye was how uncoordinated kids where and how uncomfortable they were in their bodies. So I decided to start a weekly boot camp for kids. Once a week, 20 kids would meet at the local ball field. We would jump rope, learn how to skip, jump on boxes, bear crawl and throw around medicine balls. Out of that came Iron Den Elite Gym, a gym where kids from middle school thru college came come and work out for free. All they have to do is show up with the Want and Will. The Want to do it and the Will to see it through. We not only work out but talk about nutrition/diet, the need for sleep and believing in themselves. As a society, we keep talking about being healthy but don’t show kids how to do it.
