J. Henry "Hank" Drought

J. Henry "Hank" Drought, MS, CSCS*D, NSCA-CPT*D, ACSM-EP-C, USAW-Level 1, is one of the "founding fathers" of Personal Training as a profession, and he has over 40 years of experience as a personal trainer and strength & conditioning and speed consultant in the United States and Europe since 1977. Mr. Drought is a recipient of the 2017 Albert Nelson Marquis Lifetime Achievement Award, and the James Henry "Hank" Drought Collection is kept at the Howard Gotlieb Archival Research Center at Boston University. He was awarded "Personal Trainer of the Year" in 2000 by the National Strength & Conditioning Association (NSCA), and was selected one of the "100 Best Trainers in America" by Men's Journal magazine in 2004. In 2010 he was voted "Best of New Haven" for Personal Training in the CTNow Readers' Poll. Clients have included: The State of Massachusetts, City of Boston, major corporations, health clubs, professional and amateur athletes, models, actors, and general public exercisers of all ages and levels.

Mr. Drought has been a member of the Board of Directors for the National Strength & Conditioning Association, and is a former member of the Lake Placid Olympic Organizing Committee for the XIIIth Winter Olympic Games. He is an internationally recognized speaker and writer on training topics, and is frequently interviewed in national magazines and on television.

Drought holds an MS in Clinical Exercise Physiology from Northeastern University in Boston and a BS in Physical Education from Rutgers University and the United States Military Academy at West Point. He has earned professional certifications from the National Strength & Conditioning Association, American College of Sports Medicine, American Council on Exercise, and USA Weightlifting.

Hank has been an intercollegiate football and baseball player, an international rugby player in Europe, a Boston Marathon finisher, and a T'ai Chi Ch'uan practitioner since 1985 and former student of Tai Chi Grand Master Gin Soon Chu (5th generation Yang Style). He has authored a chapter in the NSCA's "Essentials of Personal Training" textbook, and his biography is included in Marquis' Who's Who in the World, Who's Who in America, Who's Who in Medicine and Healthcare, and Who's Who in the East since 1995.
