Dear Diary,

By Christine M. Lopez

Ah, I remember my diary when I was young. It had a flower cover and a cheap little lock and key to hold all my deepest secrets...haha

Well your food diary will expose all your eating secrets- it is a definite necessity if you are looking for a fat loss in your future. Why is keeping track of what you eat so important?

Fat Loss is 80% nutrtition,20% exercise. Eating a fresh variety of nutrient rich foods in the right quantities is vital for fat loss. With a little homework, a dash of committment and a butt load of will power you can control the fat demon.

By writing down every morsal you will be able to take an honest look at what is going on food wise in your life. Take one week, and include a weekend to write every single food  you put in your mouth. Include condiments, drinks, and approximate sizes. I use a tiny spiral notebook that fits in my purse, you can use paper or go tech- there are plenty of free apps to keep a food log on your phone.

After you have kept track for a week, I suggest going to mypyramid.gov, eatright.org, or healthyeating.webmd.com to get an actual picture of appropriate portion sizes and number of servings you should be getting every day of whole grains, veggies, fruits, lean proteins and healthy fats. This will enable you to see the "holes" in your diet- and it is an excellent way for you to tweak your own eating and turn your health around.

Be honest with yourself- don't skip writing down that you had Starbucks and a Krispy Kreme doughnut or two. This is your personal confession in order to overcome these diet pitfalls and create the body you desire!

Have a great weekend and don't forget to eat your veggies! ;)
