Fitness and Medical Exercise (FAME) was founded by Laurie Klyce Gordon in October 2011. Laurie is a Certified Personal Trainer through the National Academy of Sports Medicine and her Medical Exercise Specialist certification is in progress. She maintains up-to-date CPR/AED and First Aid certifications and holds degrees from The Ohio State University and Northeastern University. As a Personal Trainer, Laurie designs fitness programming for people who want professional help with general conditioning, post-rehab exercises, and workouts for special conditions such as hypertension, diabetes or arthritis. (FAME does not treat or diagnose clients’ conditions.) In her free time, Laurie walks her dog, plays tennis, reads The Economist and the New Yorker, watches Netflix DVD’s and spends time with her family including nieces, nephews and stepchildren.
The FAME studio is located in Gaithersburg, Maryland off of Airpark Drive. The FAME studio has everything for total fitness in a private environment. The eco-friendly bamboo flooring is top-of-the-line with 3/8” shock absorbing padding underneath. The Hoist® strength equipment was chosen because it can be adjusted to fit everybody. The Pacemaster® treadmill inclines and declines to add variety. For a seated warm-up, there is a Lemond® recumbent bike. The seat adjusts not only forward and backward, but tilts down and up, so we can find the best fit for your back and knees! We also have a Magne arm bike to strengthen shoulders, build upper body strength and provide variety in cardiovascular training. Laurie will tune the big screen HD televisions to your favorite cable news, sports, or music channel.
In addition, the FAME studio has a variety of fun fitness tools to challenge people at appropriate levels including balance boards, BOSU balance trainers, BOSU ballast balls, a mini trampoline, stability balls, a rebounder for medicine ball tosses, a TRX trainer, plyo boxes, dumbbells, balance disks, versa-steps, tubing, bands, and more. Because of the variety of equipment and Laurie’s knowledge and creativity, you will never do the exact same workout twice. Your session will end with appropriate flexibility exercises. If you need to grab a quick shower before heading out to do something else or going back to work, we have a “locker room” to accommodate your needs. Towels and body wash are provided. All equipment is sanitized between client visits. Water and towels are provided. As a precautionary measure, an automatic external defibrillator (AED) is in the studio.
