Recently, I presented a class entitled “The Alkaline Body” to an organization and the learning process amazed me! The time and research that I put into preparing the class and materials I provided was rewarding enough for me to know that information is power—power to make a change! Then, when I saw light bulbs turn on across the room, it made me aware of their readiness to approach serious health issues. People are sick and do not know why or how to seek the answers. I have to admit, I learned the importance of acid-alkaline balance as a result of my own health crisis four years ago. When you consider health at the level of our body cells, you cannot deny the facts. I am a cancer survivor and I still make a conscious effort to focus on the actions I need to maintain a good pH balance. Potential of Hydrogen (or pH) is the measurement of the acid-alkaline ratio of your body’s fluids and tissues.
Without giving you a science class, acid-alkaline balance means the amount of acids and non-acids that are found in your body’s fluids (blood, saliva, and urine) and tissues register the appropriate pH levels for the body to function properly. pH levels measure the ratio of acids to non-acids on a scale of 0 to 14—pH of 7 is considered neutral. An acidic condition exists with a pH level is below 7, while a pH level above 7 indicates an alkaline condition. Good health results when this ratio is balanced. Otherwise, excessively acidic or alkaline conditions make the body vulnerable to disease.
5 keys to successful pH balance:
1. Drink at least half your body weight of water per day.
2. Reduce or eliminate acidic beverages.
3. Eat lots of fresh fruits and vegetables.
4. Reduce stress and toxic overload in your environment.
5. Practice deep breathing for more energy—assists in oxygen/carbon dioxide exchange.
