Motivation

By Maggie Mahoney

Hi All!!!

So how are those New Years Resolutions going??  Right about now is when people are finding it a struggle to keep up with their motivation.  And I tell ya what, that is including ME!!!!!!!!!!!!

Today, I was supposed to meet a friend at the gym for an intense cardio session (my worst enemy! I hate Cardio, haha) and when I was driving their I got a text message that she was bailing on me.  Now, as I am driving I realize that I have two choices 1) Go to the gym and complete my session solo or 2) Go home...............As I am in route to the gym I am thinking of all possible excuses to have to go home such as, my dog needs to go to the vet today and I have other stuff to do, I need to study (I just started my CSCS program), I am hungry and I wasn't prepared with snacks everything and anything went through my head for the next 5 minutes.  I then made the decision to call my husband because I knew he would talk to me as I would to a client, and low and behold he did, and I went to the gym and felt FABULOUS afterward.

The moral of my story is everybody  needs help and support getting to their goals.  This is not a sign of weakness.  The reason I am in business is not because people are not intelligent and can't figure out the things that I can, although obviously I have spent countless hours studying the material, or that people don't have goals.  The #1 reason I am in business is motivation.  No matter your fit level, goals, budget, etc.. everybody can benefit from this type of constant support.  I am thankful to have a husband that will say these things to me, let's face it I don't always have the best reaction, but it is because of those words that I continue to meet my health and fitness goals and stay on track.

So I challenge everyone to find a family member, friend or trainer that will give you the constant support that you need to achieve great things!!!!!

Get to know me!

By Maggie Mahoney
Hi All!! I hope everybody had a wonderful holiday season and is looking forward to a fresh start to the New Year! I know that I am!!!! When searching for a fitness professional to help you reach your goals it can be very stressful so I want to take moment to introduce myself to you both personally and professionally. Let's get personal first! I am 28 years old, live in the suburbs of Chicago with my husband and our three dogs, yes three! We have a 9 year old Great Dane, a 7 year old Boxer and a 4 year old pit bull mix. They keep our lives interesting that is for sure. I have a very supportive family and great friends. I love to stay active and find new experiences. Any other questions in this area please ask! As a trainer, I feel I am a realist (although some clients may not say that!). I understand that social events, children, spouses and a numerous other events are a part of life. I feel that we need to find a way to balance ourselves first to be able to reach the health/fitness goals one may have. I will work around these issues and create a plan that specifically meets what you need. Now this does not mean that I am not tough and that I do not expect to get 100 percent from my clients. I know that everyone has a potential they don't even realize and the greatest part of my job is when that expectation gets met and the "ah-ha" moment with a client, almost brings me to tears every time!! I have been specializing in weight-loss and general fitness of all age ranges 12-92, and am currently enrolled in the CSCS certification through NSCA and am looking to add the athlete world to my resume. I hope you all get a little insight about me and I will check back in soon. Commit to be Fit, Maggie

Maggie Mahoney

I grew up in the suburbs of Chicago always being an active child. I was always more interested in being outdoors and getting dirty than I was about playing with Barbie’s. One day when I was about 7 years old, I asked my father to sign me up for basketball. My parents were unsure about the idea, but with my persistence, they finally gave in and from then on my sports were one of the biggest things in my life. As a kid, I was involved in basketball and softball through the park district programs and brought the skills I learned to try out for the school teams. To my surprise I made the varsity team as a sophomore. I was so thrilled and worked as hard as I could to improve my skills. When it came to choosing college athletics, it didn’t play into the cards, but I still remained active. Being the rebellious child that I was, when my dad told me to do something in the sports industry of course I had to defy him and major in Sociology. To his surprise a few years after college graduation, I went back to school to learn the profession of personal training and he got to give me the infamous “I told you so”. Once obtaining all of my education I went to work for Lifetime Fitness, which I found to be a good experience as a new trainer but I knew that the corporate mission was not meshing with my own. During my employment there I was able to change a lot of peoples lives through individual and group training. Upon my departure from them, I have made it my mission to help as many people as possible and live my vision of having a happy and healthy community by changing one person at a time. I have a very supportive husband who has been my rock in my journey to be an independent personal trainer and we hope to have “my” business as “ours” so we can teach together and promote healthy living.
