Obstacles, disease, limitations, and exercise

By Marie Powers

Many obese people are told they need to lose weight.  What they are not told is that many of the diseases, disorders, and pain that they have would be eliminated if they lost weight.  Never once did a doctor tell me that I could be totally relieved of acid reflux if I lost weight.  When I was diagnosed with diabetes, I was given instructions to control my blood sugar but was never told that losing weight would have prevented the disease or would possibly reverse the disease.  Many people tell me they can't exercise because they have knee problems or hip problems, etc.  I have a client who was told by her doctor she must lose weight to stay alive, and he told her, "Just follow any diet and do some exercise."  She didn't know how she could exercise when her knees gave her so much pain.  Now after having worked out for one plus years and having lost 135 pounds, she is amazed that she no longer has knee pain.  So don't let obstacles be your excuse for not getting fit and healthy, but rather let them be your springboard to action and motivation!

Marie Powers

Having been obese all of my adult life and losing half my body weight, I am the "no excuses" trainer. I see limitations as opportunities and am very familiar with working with the obese, seniors, those coming back from injuries, and those with special needs. I understand the mindset and obstacles of the obese. I believe life is to be lived and enjoyed, and I love working with others, especially those who have believed they were unable to be fit and active, to help them reach their life goals. My desire is to facilitate transformation of the whole person - body, soul, and spirit.
