HAVE FUN! There is so much emphasis put on how we should act, what we should wear, how we should look. Do what you want to do and what makes you genuinely HAPPY!!!! You have one life, make it grand :)
You heard me, just ditch it! So many of us become addicted to getting on the scale every morning to judge what we ate the day before, or for some of us maybe to shame ourselves for not getting to the gym. For many stepping on the scale daily can sabotage your healthy lifestyle efforts. How often have you worked out really hard, eaten really well and stepped on the scale and you gained a pound? Then, out of frustration, the next day you eat two pieces of fabulous chocolate cake and the scale drops!?!?! This is enough to drive anyone that is trying to lose weight, crazy.
I used to be on the scale daily and seriously drove myself to eat more and exercise less. To me it was depressing watching the scale move ever so slightly to get to a desired number. Some arbitrary number that I thought sounded good. So I would sabotage myself and have a bag of chips on the couch. It wasn’t until years later that I learned to accept how I was built and what my healthy weight was.
If you are exercising regularly (3-5 times per week) and eating a relatively clean diet you will be at your set weight. A place that your body is comfortable and running most efficiently. Embrace your body and where it is at. Quiet all the mind chatter about your weight, take a deep breath and know that everyone is different and you don’t need a scale to determine your self worth. Keep everything simple and you can achieve the balanced body you may desire.
I know this ended up a little mushy but seriously LOVE your body and stop driving yourself nuts on the scale!!!! You will thank me later........
The fuss is because it's amazing with amazing benefits! Yoga, which literally means to add, join or unite breath and movement, is for everyone. You may be thinking, yeah right, she's just saying that because she loves to practice.. I am actually speaking from experience. See, I almost got kicked out of my very first yoga class because my friends and I were laughing so hard. As we lay there in savasana the instructor was talking about light radiating from our fingertips all I could think about was my favorite movie from my childhood ET......Mindy phone home..... I did not go back to another yoga class for many years as I just knew it was not for me. Fast forward a few years and as a personal trainer I could feel my body becoming stiff and tired from hours of training and running all over the place every day. So I decided to give it another go and this time it felt good, really really gooooooooooood. SO blah blah blah I fell in love with the practice of yoga, all different kinds and even started researching the ancient discipline.
There are so many different ways to practice yoga and some of them you don't even need to move (sa-weet). What I want to break is the barrier that most people put up against yoga. I'm not flexible enough, I need a better workout than that, yoga is for hippies and tree huggers, I'm not really into chanting. See the beauty is that by practicing yoga you will become more flexible, you will realize it is an amazing workout when the correct principles are applied, you might start to notice the environment and take care of it and you may just find the high after a great OHM.
So True - hahhaha
Did you weekend go something like this??? Wake up late Friday morning so instead of taking a morning class you decide to skip it and workout right after work, no happy hour tonight! But somehow your co-workers "twist" your arm and all of a sudden it's 7 PM you are 4 drinks deep and craving a slice of pizza......how did this happen? But you promise yourself you will hit it hard in the morning so 1 clice won't kill ya. Saturday morning rolls around and allthough you are feeling sluggish you manage to drag yourself to the gym for a half hearted walk on the treadmill, but hey, something is better than nothing, right???? After a nap and some grub you head out for a low key Saturday night with friends, but they had other things in mind. Several shots later and a taco from a local Mexican joint your back home ready to drift off to dreamland. Sunday, well sunday is sunday and you either sit on th ecouch all day or meet friends for brunch and a bloody mary to rehash the weekend..........Any of this sound familiar?
Not that I speak from experince but IF this happens, get over it. the goal is to not let that weekend repeat itself every weekend. We all know that alchohol and will power don't seem to work together so, in your quest for a healthier version of you, watch how much you drink. It really is that simple.
You will be putting less calories in your body and can still be productive the next day.
You may feel like death Monday and Tuesday but those are the days when it is most important to pick yourself up, drag yourself to a class or to the gym or for a run and PUSH YOURSELF TO THE LIMIT. Let your body know your sorry and you are getting back on track.
Carpe Diem, right?
Confused by all of the health and fitness advice you see posted just about everywhere? You are not alone. I mean who isn't confused by No Carbs, No Sugar, Fruit only, just eat cabbage soup, sprinkle this on your food and you will shrink a size, Juice cleanse, Paleo diet, HCG diet, 1200 calorie a day diet, and so on and so on.........What the H~E~ Double hockey sticks are we supposed to eat! I seriosuly see things about these posted evry single day and am quite frankly getting sick of it. Who has time to read it all, let alone try to process and understand it all?
What should we do Mindy, you may ask. THINK SIMPLE. Eat foods that are not processed, food that comes from nature not the conveyer belt. Eat in moderation. keep your meals smaller and more frequent. By the time you are starving your metabolism is already slowing down. When this happens your body starts to fuel itself by eating away at your muscle (totally a cruel joke played on us by nature). If you fulfill a craving and eat or drink something on the "unhealthy" side just get back on track. I donut will not make you gain back the 10 lbs you just lost but 1 donut a day or 10 donuts in 1 day will. Take responsibility for what you put in your mouth. Recognize that just because no one saw you eat it, doesn't mean it doen't count. You can tell everyone how well your eating and excersizing but the proof will be in your jeans.......when they don't fit!
Just remember that healthy is a lifestyle and the only way to keep it up is to KEEP IT SIMPLE!!!!
Welcome to my first blog post EVER! Those who know me will attest to the fact that I am not good with technology...in fact it frightens me a bit but I am diving in head first and going to try to jump into this century with both feet finally.
I have been personal training for the past 6 years. My clients primarily focus on weight loss, flexibility, body definition and some increasing their mass. I am recently Power Yoga certified and am amazed that by adding some of this to my current clients workouts how much they have improved in both strength and flexibility.
I absolutely LOVE what I do, helping others reach their goals, change their goals and reach new goals is, to me, one of the best feelings in the world.
You may be wondering about the name of my blog Spunkday. I try to think of everyday as Spunkday and approach each day with a spunk and fire to accomplish the most that I can in the only way that I know how, with love :)
I will use this blog as most blogs are used to get some good fitness and nutrition information out there. Please message me if you have any questions and I hope you enjoy!!!!
