Be grateful today...and everyday

Mind-Body Fitness
By Nancy McCaffrey

Happy Thanksgiving everyone! Today

is a day that many of us reflect on all

we have to be grateful for. This is a

perfect chance to wish you all a

happy holiday, but also inspire some additional

gratefulness.

As many of you know, I went to

Atlanta recently for

Continuing Education Expo and

decided while I was there to take a

Tae Bo class with the famous

Billy Blanks. My incredible client

Aimee jumped at the chance

to come with me, as she is now

successfully addicted to exercise

and new adventures! Her over

30 pound weight loss to this date

has not only gotten her feeling and

looking more fit, but her entire outlook

on life has gotten healthier and more

energetic as well!

My point in all of this was to share with you Billy's message to us at the end of class.  Our bodies and minds are in a constant battle with one another. We know we should eat right and exercise- our minds know that. We try and motivate our bodies to do what the mind thinks. However, many of us stumble when we let the third player into the fight:

our senses. We see the cookie- we smell the cookie- we can almost taste the cookie. And we fail when we

let the senses win over the mind. Or, with exercise- our pain sensors tell our minds that our legs are sore-

our heat sensors tell us it is hot in the room- and we loose the motivation to continue. Awareness is the key-

know that this is happening- and make your mind and body more powerful than anything that is trying to stop

you. Why? You have been given one body- one mind- and we are only here on Earth for a short while.

Why not make the best of it?

Aimee and I were definitely inspired by Billy's words. They were things we had both heard before- and it is

pretty much my philosophy. But he did such an outstanding job conveying this reality to us.

Be grateful today. Grateful for family, for friends and for life. Be grateful for your bodies and minds. Let them

work together rather than fight each other. Yes- it is Thanksgiving and I am pretty sure we will all indulge

a bit. That's OK. Get back at the fight tomorrow. You are going to win! I am thankkful for all of you!

"Life is like riding a bicycle..in order to stay balanced, you must keep moving" -Albert Einstein This is my philosophy that I live by not only during exercise, but also in my daily life, and I strive to encourage my clients to do the same. I am a mother of 3 and, like most parents, have found that in order to keep up with them I need to also take good care of myself. Fitness should be affordable, efficient and fun! Ask any of my clients and a common review would be that they have never enjoyed themselves so much working out so hard!
