A Fresh Start

Just a few random thoughts to wrap up the month of May.

When you are taking prescription medications, the side effects can often have a negative impact on your fitness routine.  Be sure to discuss this with your doctor

in order to avoid setbacks in your training.

No matter what your sport, or your training regime, at some point you will need a change.  For some, it is known as periodization, or deloading, or even off season. Changing up your workout is important.  I always look forward to a week or two away from my regular training. A lot of it has to do with a break from the physical demands.  Also, I have several workouts that are just plain fun to do. Rest is as important as your workout to get results. They go hand in hand.  If you are getting tired of the same thing, try a class, get a kettlebell and head outside. Bike, run, walk with a friend. Change the exercises you are doing, and vary the number of sets and reps.

Additionally, with regards to changing up your routine, one of my favorite go to’s for exercises and information, is any book written by Frederic Delavier.  Delavier’s Strength Training Anatomy,  Core Training Anatomy,  and Women’s Strength Training Anatomy Workouts, are well worn on my bookshelf.  They have great illustrations, and tell you the pros and cons of the exercise.

Summer is here, so remember hydration!

Today is a fresh start, so, as Bono sings, Walk On!

Ciao for now!
