We all want to feel the burn when working out, but what about the shakes? I'm not talking about feeling dizzy from not eating enough or from coming up too fast after doing a forward bend. When your body is working really hard, either holding a challenging position or toward the end of a set, your muscles start to unintentionally quiver.
My younger sister recently asked me for some help losing weight. She had joined a local gym and was exercising almost every day. She had lost a little weight initially but was not getting the results she wanted. When I asked her about her gym routine she said she was spending 30-45 minutes on the elliptical trainer, followed by some core and arm exercises. Sound familiar?
We've all been there before: dieting and exercising hard for months, dropping 98% of that excess visceral fat, but then... WE GET STUCK?! Impossible! You've been getting 6-8 hours of sleep more often than not, have eaten well a vast majority of the time and continue pushing your threshold in the gym. What gives? Fat loss eating is different from a weight loss approach to food. Weight loss places a sole focus on calories. Fat loss focuses on calories too, but puts more focus on hormones. Fat loss is about eating in a way that controls the natural compensatory nature of your metabolism. Metabolic sensations such as hunger, cravings, and energy are dramatically influenced by hormones. Balance your hormones and these sensations too will stabilize resulting in less food intake without much conscious effort.
Popular media would have you believe that performing a specific exercise will help you achieve flat abs. The truth is you cannot achieve spot reduction of fat utilizing one exercise. While doing crunches will strengthen your core, crunches won’t specifically target fat in your abdomen. Do not confuse the sensation of abdominal muscles working with targeting fat over those muscles.
Rather than worrying about eating less, focus on eating more of the fat loss foods.
Fat loss foods don’t have magical fat burning properties. The reason they are so good at helping with fat loss is because they do 3 things:
1. Control hunger. They make you full quickly and keep you full for longer because they are digested slowly.
2. Raise energy. Because they are digested slowly their nutrients are absorbed in a slow steady fashion. This gives a steady supply of fuel and raises energy levels.
3. Reduce cravings.
