"Your Body, Your Move!" A Blog from Move Well Fitness, LLC.
Traditionally speaking, when it comes to exercise, men have dominated the lifting weights world. This occurred mainly due to men being allowed to participate in sporting activities while women were not allowed to because it was not considered “lady like” and it was illegal (Illegal for Women to Lift Weights).

Setting up a home gym, whether a spot on the floor for a mat and a couple of weights, or a dedicated room with a selection of equipment, is like setting up a business: it is generally better to have a plan in place than to approach it piecemeal. One wastes a lot less time, money, and energy. This doesn't mean one should buy or do everything at once. It is a way of spending wisely based on needs and resources.

Free weights…machines…oh my, what do I choose? So it’s February and your New Year resolution to join a gym is still going strong….right? The first day in a gym can be overwhelming with so much equipment and so many bodies all in one place. So where do you start? Do you pick an empty machine because, well hey, it looks expensive so it must be a good place to start. Do you head right for the weight rack? Decisions decisions!

Free weights, body weight and resistance machines. What are the differences when strength training? Well free weights offer the most functionality of the three because you can perform many excercises and target all muscles, using them in various ways. Free weights also incorporates the smaller muscles that machines does not. This is because machines gives your body support and uniformity whereas free weights does not. Thus, you have to incorpoarte more of your smaller muscles to work with the free weights and perform your exercise. This can add more value to your workouts.
