Static Back Exercise
It's that time of year again. The holidays are fast approaching and, while we may be feeling the excitement, we may also be dreading the toll they take on our well-being, our wallets and, of course, our weight. The many weeks between Thanksgiving and the new year are, for most of us, the most taxing and the most challenging when it comes to our physical and emotional health. Many people actually feel depressed, anxious, resentful, etc.
This past week has been really busy. Actually things have seemed rather busy for a while now. It is at the point that the piles of 'to be done when I get the chance' on my desk have dates at the bottom of the pile that would be way past due if they were cartons of milk. Some of it if it were packaged cheese. At least I am not at the dried bean stage.
I am usually heard saying that I live a very stress-free life, and it is true that very little fazes me. It helps that I have complete control over my schedule, and if I pack too much on my plate it is my own doing. I also limit my exposure to the news and do not watch on TV scenes of catastrophes that I can do nothing about.
At some point, we've all awoken from some kind of binge, perhaps surrounded by beer bottles, candy wrappers, or shopping bags, and asked ourselves: What the hell happened? How can rational, functioning adults totally lose control of their impulses?
Too tired to exercise? You don’t sleep well at night? Exercise habits have been highly correlated to your sleeping patterns. We have all heard over and over again the endless list of benefits that exercising can do for you. Lowering your anxiety levels and helping with stress management are two of those benefits and oftentimes lack of sleep can be caused by high anxiety and/ or high levels of stress. Good sleep doesn’t cause everyone to suddenly have the urge and discipline to exercise; yet exercising does result in a better night’s rest.
